  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is that of a Corporate Manager within Corporate & Institutional Banking at RBS. On a day-to-day basis my role involves dealing with customer queries regarding mandate changes, opening new accounts, informing customers when they are overdrawn, and other general customer queries.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes I have learnt much more than I previously knew about the banking sector and the products that we offer our customers. Also I believe that I have developed my personal confidence when interacting with people through working and getting to know new people.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying my apprenticeship so far. The small team that I work with are really friendly and are always willing to help me with anything. The banking culture can be a harsh enviroment, especially with all of the fines etc that have recently been in the news that make bankers seem like bad people, however this has not put me off my apprenticeship.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NatWest?
  • I feel very valued by RBS as a whole. My Manager is very nice and helps me with whatever I need and we regularly chat about how I am progressing and how I am findign my role.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel that my apprenticeship programme is well organised. I have a simple learning plan that I follow which is comprised of two sections (Knowledge and Competence). I regularly meet with my assessor to discuss how I am finding my learning and if I need any help.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • As I have said above, my training provider and I regularly meet to discuss my progress and I feel that they provide me with all the help and support that I need.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer gives me pleanty of support. I can ask my line manager if I need help with anything and there are also contact points who I can talk to if needed.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary package is enough to meet my living costs with money to spare. It is much better than most apprenticeships. Also I do not have far to travel to work so I am not spending loads of money on fuel each month.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • We are entitled to 5 days per year of voluntary work, but I am not sure of any other opportunities outside of work.

  • Yes

  • RBS Group is a greta place to work and there are lots of different jobs that you can apply for within the group.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • Prepare for the interview process as it is a very complex interview process.
