My role varies depending on which placement I am in. There are four placements altogether on the 2 year scheme. The placements I will be on include HR Services, Specialist Recruitment, People Management Advisors and Business Partners. I carried out many administrative processes at the start and then developed relationships with stakeholders when running assessment centres in my recruitment placement.
I am currently studying for a CIPD Level 5 qualification in HR Management. I have also attended several training courses offered by TfL to help navigate systems I need to use such as SAP and TALEO.
I enjoy coming to work every single day. I have a good amount of responsibilities and feel I am making an impact while on this apprenticeship scheme. I feel very privileged to contribute and have a positive influence on the millions of customers that use our services.
I feel extremely valued at TfL. All my ideas are respected and considered in the decision making processes. All of us apprentices have regular feedback and support from our line managers and even senior professionals such as the HR director. We are always encouraged to take on challenging opportunities to help our development.
This programme is very well structured. All of the placements we will be on are outlined at the beginning of the scheme so we have a good idea of what to expect. We are given study days to ensure we have enough time to study for the qualification.
We have a programme leader who is very responsive to the emails we send. We also have regular telephone calls with a tutor who provides us with all the necessary resources to complete our qualification and answer any questions we may have.
There is an extensive support system in place including our placement managers as well as the sponsors. We are always well informed of any changes to the structure and everyone is readily available to offer support and guidance if needed.
This scheme pays a very competitive salary. As a TfL employee we are also entitled to free travel on the TfL network.
There are so many opportunities outside of work that we are encouraged to pursue. I have attended many recruitment events where senior professionals have delivered presentations about the future of early careers recruitment and assessment.
Yes
The job satisfaction on this scheme is very high. You are given a platform to contribute all your ideas while still having the support structure to help you along the way. TfL have a paternalistic culture and everyone here is always willing to share their knowledge to help you develop.
Be confident! The process is quite daunting but just prepare and make sure you are aware of what is expected from you.
