My day to day role changes depending on my department placement at the time. I can be supporting manufacturing one day, then testing an alternator for engineering development the next. The role is incredibly varied, with no two days the same.
I have learned and improved all sorts of new skills, from communication and time management, tool skills and project management just to name a few. It has been both challenging and rewarding at the same time.
My training programme is great because it has a good balance between practical skills and theory on engineering subjects. I have always wanted to study electrical qualifications, and now I get to study electrical engineering at HNC level, as well as work with people with decades of experience.
Apprentices at Cummins are thought of as the next generation of success for this company. I am constantly challenged and presented with opportunities to learn and develop new skills. The management here hold apprentices in high regard.
My programme is both well structured and flexible at the same time. Although there is a plan in place it is more of a guideline. If I find an area I enjoy or excel at, or another area I would like to explore, I have always been encouraged to speak up and arrange to spend longer or have another placement in a given department.
I receive as much support as I ask for or need, whether it is additional training, learning resources such as books or just time with a tutor.
the support I have received has been brilliant. I am always working with experienced professionals, support is only a phone call or email away.
Cummins pay a very competitive salary, even as an apprentice.
There are community projects taking place all of the time, as well as various sporting events for employees throughout the year, from golf to athletics. Recently, we got free cinema tickets, too.

In my time at Cummins I have realised that the biggest limit on an individual here is themselves. If you are prepared to work hard, Cummins will invest the time and money in you.
Be yourself, and be positive.
