My role as part of my work experience in the BMW group was fantastic. On a day to day basis I was constantly being a part of the actual workforce and given relevant tasks to engage and be a part of the learning experience . Tasks included working with the manufacturing of cars and going the the process of recording and registering cars; from the initial producing to the time of sale. Projects included working alongside administrators and labour workers often taking a central role in helping them such as through checking over papers or recognising defect cars. Overall I would give BMW a 9/10 as not only was I given a central role in work but I was also taught and given an insight to the tasks and responsibilities of a worker.
Whilst working with the BMW group, I learnt several skills and practices such as the different responsibilities and roles of a variety of workers. For example I took several learning points from the defect activity that was arranged which gave me an opportunity to have an insight into the conduct and practice of work; how to report, how to speak to one another etc. Likewise the administrative role I was given showed me the practice of taking the initiative as well as how to communicate with colleges
I enjoyed my programme and would love to experience it again in the near future. The working atmosphere as well as the thought and effort gone into activities was outstanding and i can't really fault this at all. My leader was very polite and considerate of health and safety and was very professional and went through all necessary procedures when i joined the team. The programme as a whole was quite varied and engaging, i really enjoyed it.
When working with the BMW group, I felt very valued and was treated as a part of the workforce through the fact not only was I given a central engaging role within the workplace but my health, safety and well-being was a constant #1 priority. The workers alongside my manager recognised and appreciated my efforts and input as well as contributions to the workplace and would always give me feedback on my work which i really liked too.
I would undoubtedly say that the BMW group are very thorough and organised with their work experience members as not only was there a day to day timetable for work and task but also the fact activities felt engaging and well thought of. There's not much to improve however i will say that perhaps they could ask for feedback from work experience students to better improve themselves in the future with activities and learning about what was fun to the students etc.
BMW gave me several opportunities and chances of support and advice during my placement with them. This was as evident in the fact I was assigned a personal leader who gave guidance and support in my activities and roles. His role as a leader felt much like a friend and advisor rather than a teacher which was particularly great as he wasn't too bossy or interfering instead giving me the freedom to enjoy and learn about BMW.
I as previously mentioned received several instances of support and help at the BMW group. This was due to the fact I was given a personal mentor who helped with advice and guidance on the workplace conventions and health and safety issues. Furthermore even after my work experience I was offered another chance to learn and be a part of the workforce in the future. Even fellow workers expressed support and kind words to me during my time there, encouraging me to think about a career at BMW through their personal experiences and thoughts.
As my programme was a work experience no salary was given and since it was local living, travel and any other costs were not present. However for what was given such a personal insight and knowledge of the workplace was priceless and truly gave further encouragement and motivation to join the BMW group and be part of the workforce. I have been told about various job oppertunities with the BMW group in the future and i have no doubt that they pay their employees fairly and treat them well etc.
Outside of my work experience there was little opportunities since after all it was a work experience, however the manager did approach me after my week of work experience to notify me of his interest to make me apart of his workforce in the future do to my attitude to learning. I was informed about future employment with the group and perhaps branching into an apprenticeship or intern etc. so these opportunities are something i will definitely look into.
Yes
The BMW group as a whole was very satisfactory and organised as a work experience. Through various engaging and central activities as well as roles, the whole week was very insightful into the workplace; it's conventions, know-how and conduct. The whole experience was encouraging and motivational to be an employee and to be a part of the working world. Really great overall and i would definitely go back to get more experience myself!
If anyone is interested in being a part of the BMW group as a part of their work experience I would recommend for them to be very passionate of BMW and their manufacturing, recording and selling of cars and other services. They should also be ready for a focused and engaging week of work, insight and knowledge. If you apply for a job or apprenticeship with them i think it would be the same as applying for a job anywhere else. Dress smart and ask questions etc. just be yourself.
