Savers stock assistant - On a day to day basis I was constantly being a part of the actual workforce and given relevant tasks to engage and be a part of the learning experience. Thrown in at the deep but with good pay and a challenging work atmosphere. Responsible for Sunday stock take and daily store stock management as well as assistance with customers and their needs
Good development from colleagues and have learnt many stock taking and management skills, learnt to time manage and divide and conquer tasks better. Looking at the apprenticeship scheme where this can be reinforced. Furthermore I learnt several skills and practices such as the different responsibilities and roles of a variety of workers. Likewise the administrative role I was given showed me the practice of taking the initiative as well as how to communicate with colleges
I enjoyed my programme and would love to experience it again. The working atmosphere as well as the thought and effort gone into activities was outstanding. My leader was very polite and considerate of health and safety and was very professional. The programme as a whole was quite varied and engaging. I particularly enjoyed the team culture and working together with colleagues of different backgrounds and experience levels, I would have preferred longer breaks to rest between long shifts but this is the nature of the work I guess. It did meet my expectations I had before starting the work.
When working with Savers, I felt very valued and was treated as a part of the workforce through the fact not only was I given a central engaging role within the workplace but my health, safety and well-being was a priority. The workers alongside my manager recognised and appreciated my efforts and input as well as contributions to the workplace.I appreciate that Savers remunerate their employees for the hard work that is expected of them, regular feedback is also given and team members are always involved and asked for further training. I felt valued and had been told that I could start at Savers and would be considered on an apprentice scheme if I wished.
I would undoubtedly say that Savers are very thorough and organised with their work experience members as not only was there a day to day timetable for work and task but also the fact activities felt engaging and well thought of. The working hierarchy was clearly defined and I always knew who to report to and who was in charge of support and who I would have to report to
Savers gave me several opportunities and chances of support and advice. This was as evident in the fact I was assigned a personal leader who gave guidance and support in my activities and roles. His role as a leader felt much like a friend and advisor rather than a teacher which was particularly great as he wasn't too bossy or interfering instead giving me the freedom to enjoy and learn about Savers. This was as part of a larger programme which included Daily meetings with my line manager and this continued on a weekly basis after the first 3 weeks
I as previously mentioned received several instances of support and help at Savers. This was due to the fact I was given a personal mentor who helped with advice and guidance on the workplace conventions and health and safety issues. Furthermore even after my work experience I was offered another chance to learn and be a part of the workforce in the future. Even fellow workers expressed support and kind words to me during my time there, encouraging me to think about a career at Savers through their personal experiences and thoughts.
As mentioned previously, the salary was very good considering the position and I could actually put some money away in the bank account after travel costs and paying for lunches and other expenses. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Aldi to other trainees from a salary point of view, as long as you are willing to put in the effort in return. Although As my programme was a work experience and since it was local living, travel and any other costs were not present or very limited such as a short bus journey or the occasional snack. However for what was given such a personal insight and knowledge of the workplace was priceless and truly gave further encouragement and motivation to join Savers and be part of the workforce
Outside of my work experience there was little opportunities since after all it was a work experience, however my personal manager did approach me after my week of work experience to notify me of his interest to make me apart of his workforce in the future due to my attitude to learning.
Yes
Savers as a whole was very satisfactory and organised as a work experience. Through various engaging and central activities as well as roles, the whole week was very insightful into the workplace; it's conventions, know-how and conduct. The whole experience was encouraging and motivational to be an employee and to be a part of the working world This combined with the fact a salary was given, which is very rare in such programmes, for me made Savers an amazing, authentic and relatively well paying job not to mention the friendly and approachable atmosphere.
Be honest in your interview and show that you are willing to work hard and give your best effort to learn their methods. Realise that hard work is expected considering the good pay for employees. Furthermore I would ensure that you are ready for a focused and engaging week of work, insight and knowledge as well as having genuine passion for work
