  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I participated in the smart futures programme which lasted three weeks. Spent a week doing work experience in the tax department of EY and had to do tasks that involved IT and working with others. Had to do a project like dragons den where we had to create a product and pitch it using a presentation. Had to do a lot of group activities with the rest of the group.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I gained a CMI leadership and managment award at the end of the three weeks and so gained a lot of new skills around leading a team. Leant new skills about CV's and interveiws as i completed a embloyibity skills session. Learnt alot bout working in a office, throught the IT induction i learnt alot of new useful IT skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed it as i met alot of new people, people i would never had met if not for the programme, they were from all over Glasgow and the UK. Everyone worked really well together and the leaders and managaers were also really friednly and always willing to help you with things.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by EY?
  • I feel very valued by EY as alot of us were gave prizes and awards on the last day to regonise our commitment and acheivemnts througout the programme. All of the mentors were really encourging and enthustiatsic about us and the programme. During the buisness week, we were thanked alot after we helped put and did multiple tasks for our managers.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised and strucured this programme was. We were given multiple points of contact if we had any questions or problems. we were given alot of support during all of the sessions. in order to get the CMI qualification, we had to complete a learning log and we completed this on a well-paced scedule and were given alot of helpful resources for this.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • We received alot of support from the beginning as we were each given a mentor that we could contact with any questions about things like education or our work future. Staff was always on hand to help if we needed it. They were also really enthusiastic about the programme and helping us.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received alot of support and guidance when i or anyone else needed it. If we had any issues with IT, we could phone up the IT team and get the problem sorted quickly. We were also encoureged to ask alot of questions and thier answers were always helpful and they never seemed to get annoyed with helping us.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Considering our age, our wage was very good, we were moslty always supplied with lunch and so didnt need to expend alot of cost on that aspect.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • We were given lots of oppertunities to gain new contacts and to meet new people, this could lead to oppertunities outside of work. When we werent working, they took us on trips to places like STV and a windfarm to gain some insight into these buinessess. At the end of the programme, you are also given the oppertunity to be a ambassoder for the programme.

  • Yes

  • Beacause it was really enjoyable and insightful.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Be very enthusiatic about applying, show that you want a place.
