I'm an apprentice toolmaker this involves learning the skills required to make different types of press tools from laminations to draw and blank tools. On a day to day basis this includes machining the material required, fitting the tools together and fixing any problems along the way
Since starting my apprenticeship I've learnt good communication skills, essential diy skills, different type machine programming, good engineering skills. I've also developed on my time keeping and keen eye for finesse.I've also gained a lot more confidence since I started and feel more trustworthy when doing my job. I'm still learning new skills everyday
I enjoy my programme very much as it's something I've always wanted to do same as my father did. I always look forward to getting up and going a's I know I'll have a busy and fun day working with people who I enjoy being around while learning and gaining new skills.
I think every body at my work place values each other. My boss thanks me and praises me a lot the same as the other workers do on me learning new things and finally being more independent. I know my boss value me a lot because of the treatment I get, which makes me feel appreciated as I'm told all the tme how helpful I am .
My programme is very well organised as I've always had assignment's with due dates. And I've always learnt something from the jobs I'm doing as well as the paperwork I do. I had set times and dates to do things so there's no confusion and I'm never beyond on anything or late to have the tasks or work done by
I receive loads of support from my training provider they call every week to check on my performance, time keeping. Paper work. Jobs and many more. Once a mnth they come to check my work and make sure it's all to standard and I'm doing everything right as I should be.
Again I receive even more support from my employer because the push me t achieve more than hest and keep me with work to do so I never miss anything or fall behind on my learning. The help keep my apprenticeship easy and to standard. Making everything easier for me day by day.
At first my wage was very bad and low struggling to pay for things as half my weekly wage would pay just for my weekly travel costs. But as the years went by my wage went up it got a lot easier to pay for my travel and lunch and now it's even better working there.
I currently go to college once a week to study engineering to gain further knowledge and skills relating to my job so I can advance even more and even quicker to help me through the stages of my apprenticeship. I also do overtime at work out of working hours to help get the jobs done for the next day which also makes it easier for other workers
Yes
I love my job and it's very fun and interesting for other people interested in engineering as everyday brings a new and exciting challenge. With time schedules keeping everybody on there feet and lovely polite team members you feel comfortable immediately and also makes the easier to work without feeling like somebody is looking over your shoudler. You also don't get judged if you make a mistake. They just help you correct it and carry on. In my opinion engineering it one of the best apprenticeship's there is.
If tour really passionate about engineering and can keep on time and like being on your feet with something constantly to do then go for it. It's a brilliant paid job that helps you learn so many skills that can also help you get many good jobs. It opens up a new page to many things which is brilliant if also going to college to study other sectors on the side like I am. I have a wide range of knowledge afree only a few years and know I can go to work for bigger and better companys.
