My role was to oversee and input on the daily occurrences and runnings of my department. I was also solely responsible for the provisions of both tea and coffee for over 15 members of permanent staff, as well as ensuring the stationery provisions were both ample and adequate for the size of the department. Overall it was a challenging experience that tested me in a diverse and fast-paced environment.
I have learnt a number of new skills from my experience on this work placement. Primarily I have learnt how to interact with individuals on an appropriate and respectful level. I have also learnt how to manage my own time in accordance with the company's main effort and goals. In conclusion, I learnt a lot.
I enjoyed the programme thoroughly, however at times I found it difficult to fill my time when left to my own devices. I was not trusted to operate certain programming systems without heavy supervision. This was probably for the best, as I was not equipped to cope with the complex systems.
I feel that I could have been utilised more by the company. At times I found myself tonne struggling to fill my time. However when I was given a task, the company were more than willing to assist and offer help wherever possible. For this reason I felt very valued on the whole.
The programme was well structured with regular meetings put in that we're stuck to very well. There wasn't little information prior to commencing the programme with regard to a timetable of events for my upcoming placement.
I was support while-heartedly by the company throughout the entire process. However when I was given a task, the company were more than willing to assist and offer help wherever possible. For this reason I felt very valued on the whole.
My employer assisted and supported me to a very high degree, parallel to that of the company of my placement. So I can only commend my employer for their support and assistance throughout the process!
This was an unpaid placement, so the salary was non-existent and therefore I found myself struggling to meet the costs associated with living for a year.
The amount of sport I played both with my colleagues and fellow work placement individuals was not what I had hoped it had be. With this in mind, every month there was a thoroughly enjoyable team social where everyone was encouraged to get involved and get merry.
Yes
It was very good fun overall and being part of a large organisation such as this was a real eye opening experience. If you enjoy working hard for the senior members of a team then you will fit in perfectly within this placement.
Start off early with getting to know all the members of the team you are working with. This will set you off on the right foot, and enable you to build closer relationships with those you're working with. This makes for a far more amicable working environment, and should set you up for success and an overall enjoyable time.
