  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My work experience role was as a Team Member, in which I had to serve customers, make drinks and some food items, and handle cash. I had to ensure that all customers left the restaurant happy. I was never serving alone, as I was always teamed up with another member of staff.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. During my time at McDonald's I learnt vital customer service skills that I have since used while working at other companies. One of these skills is the importance of listening and ensuring that the customer fully explains their needs and requirements.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed my work experience at McDonald's, however it could have been made better by allowing an element of independence to my role - I was always partnered with a member of staff when I felt I could complete some tasks by myself.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There was no real structure to my work experience. The manager just asked me to work with another member of staff. There was no proper training, but managers were around to ask questions, should I have needed to speak to them.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There were a few staff meetings/gatherings outside of work that were really fun. The management team hired out the local bowling alley and we went as a team of staff. This was at first a bit strange for me because I was on work experience, but everyone made me feel welcome.
