As part of my level 3 I undertook a placement with Asquith. My responsibilities included working with all the children in the nursery and communicating with parents at the beginning and end of each day. I worked alongside the nursery nurses to arrange activities based on the children's interests. I also ensured the children were kept in a safe environment
I was quite nervous when I started however the team were great in supporting me and allowing my confidence to grow. I was able to attend staff meetings which allowed me to keep up to date with any relevant updates in policies and also allowed me to capture information to help me with my qualification
The company culture was well reflected in my nursery. Bright Horizons have now brought Asquith nurseries but it seems the culture remains the same. I heard good things about the nursery before I joined, as my neighbour's child attended. Having such a positive experience definitely helped support the achievement of my qualification.
Extremely valued. I definitely felt part of the team! The manager and room leader was great at giving me direction and support.
As my college didn't work directly with the nursery there was some overlap in regards to what my college expected to me to learn and what was covered on a day to day basis in the setting. The nursery team were great in observing me completing various activities. The room leader was very good at working and supporting me in my weekly tasks.
I have a very positive relationship with my college.
As mentioned my nursery was excellent!
This was an unpaid position. I know nursery nurse salaries are great but I think anyone who wants a career in early years knows there are more rewarding parts of the job. I know if you work up to manager level salaries are good.
I attended the birthday of a member of staff. I wasn't able to attend any formal company events due to me not being employed directly with the company. I know they had an employee of the year scheme.
Yes
Such a supportive environment! Everyone I met was so friendly and wanted me to learn.
Be willing to learn and be passionate about a career in early years.
