Assisting managers with preparing corporation tax returns. Helping with some technical aspects and learning on the job. Getting involved with other admin activities and organising social/team events.
Yes, I go on plenty of training courses to develop my tax technical skills. My confidence has grown incredibly - I do things as second nature that I would never normally have thought I could do.
I love my job, I do not regret my choice at all.
Extremely. I am always praised for my hard work and feel that I help and make a difference.
Very, I have a manager dedicated to my personal career development and an 'assessor' who manages all my apprenticeship work. I meet regularly with my apprenticeship group for learning days and have my 2 years worth of apprenticeship work planned out for me already.
Massive amounts! I have monthly calls and quarterly face to face meetings to discuss my personal progress. They also send us on training days every 2 months or so.
A lot - I am given the time in my day to complete my apprenticeship work and they understand I have to balance this with my day to day role. Colleagues are always willing to sit down with me and help me with technical aspects too to help me develop. I am also given study leave and college days to study for professional exams.
Incredibly, I earn more than some people in my fathers firm and could comfortably leave home and be self sufficient.
Yes, I am on the social committee and we aim to hold social events at least every month. We also have regular team lunches and then a tax-wide summer and christmas ball. We also have plenty of sports teams and charity events, including 'World Corporate Games' (an Olympic style sports competition) and an entire day in May where we all take part in charity work.
Yes
I can't reccomment the programme highly enough. They are incredibly supportive of everything I want to do and the opportunities are endless. Although it's hard work, I love my apprenticeship!
Be confident. The firm are more interested in recruiting the right person, rather than the person with the best grades. The technical knowledge will come with experience, just show that you are willing and keen to learn and that is what will impress.
