A work experience student in EY Business Academy working in the Tax service line. I worked with the different departments within tax including Indirect Tax (VAT), International Tax Services (Transfer Pricing) and Business Tax Advisory. I was given certain tasks to do by a Senior such as preparing reports, emails, researching potential clients and learning more about technical tax aspects.
I have learnt a lot about the Tax service line which I would not have known before this program. A lot of the information learnt isn't available online and the experience and knowledge of the EY staff is invaluable experience. I have enhanced my communication skills by networking with colleagues in various departments and also my presenting skills as we had to prepare a Powerpoint.
This is by far the best work experience program I have been on. The entire team is friendly and welcoming, and everyone is willing to help and answer questions despite their busy schedules. The working environment is very nice to work in and is more relaxed than the other Big 4, especially in the Manchester office. It surpassed my expectations and I would thoroughly recommend this program to anyone interested in a career in Professional services, IT, law and Finance.
I feel very valued by EY. The recruitment team were all very friendly and helpful during the recruitment process and were very quick to respond to any queries. The staff at EY were very welcoming and friendly and were always willing to help and answer questions at any point in the day. The Managing Counsellor (point of contact) was very friendly and open and would help us with any questions. The tasks were engaging and unique which gave us an insight to what work is like at EY.
The programme is structured very well. The calendar shows your timetable and you have room to book chats/ meetings with people that you want to talk to about their experiences and opinions. The recruitment team were always willing to answer any questions during our virtual online sessions and we could always go to our Managing Counsellor if we had any issues.
Not applicable for the work experience. However, the training that you would receive for the apprenticeship is very good and the teachers are always willing to help and answer any questions. The team in the departments will answer any questions and will give you opinions and feedback on your work in order to develop and improve.
I have received a lot of support from the recruitment team, the individual departments in the service lines and the Managing Counsellor. They are always willing to answer any questions and will guide you through any issues that you have. They are very friendly and welcoming and you feel very comfortable when speaking to them.
For 1 week work experience, we were given a very good salary at £6.00 per hour. We were taken out by the EY staff for lunch to very nice places. Travel wasn't reimbursed for us however the salary does help however I didn't need to travel far to the office.
Not applicable for the work experience however we were taken out for lunch which was nice. EY staff have a lot of social activities after work. There are also sports teams and groups that you can get involved in.
Yes
EY has by far the best school leaver programme and the working environment is very friendly and welcoming. EY is very large and reputable firm which will look exceptional on your CV.
Apply to the programmes as they are very worthwhile. Be yourself and don't pretend to be someone you're not during the entire process. Make sure that your application form and CV is grammatically accurate and professional. Ask as many questions as you can and don't be shy otherwise you will not get anything out of it. Prepare some questions you want answering beforehand otherwise you might forget some questions.
