I was an intern on the EY smart futures programme for 3 weeks, in which we did presentations and gained new employability skills. we had different tasks for each day. For an example on one of the days we did a dragons den based project in which we had 3 hours to create an mobile phone that would be out in 2025. we had to do the marketing, finances and product design.
I have developed my communication skills and presentation skills. I have also learnt how to make presentations better and how you should give presentations and what you shouldn't do. Doing presentations has helped me to gain time management skills. We also get a CMI level 2 qualification at the end of the programme. we also did an It training.
I have enjoyed the programme because you get to learn and develop new skills. The company culture is really nice as everyone is really friendly and is always willing to help when you need it. The smart futures programme exceeded my expectations as you work with great people and have an overall great experience.
I feel really valued by EY as you are always involved in tasks and projects and always have a role to play. You also get internal recognition for your work, from the people in charge on the day and other employees that came in to judge some of our presentations.
The programme is well organised and structured as everyday there is always something that we had to do. before the programme started we had an induction to get to know the people that would be running the programme and the people that we would be doing the programme with. Everyone on the programme also gets a mentor for ten months that can help guide them with ucas applications and the school lever programme application.
You get quite a lot of support as the training provider always helped when you where stuck or if you had a problem. The training providers always had positive attitudes and were supporting. There was also access to support whenever you needed it. For an example if you had a problem with your laptop then someone would call up IT to help you to sort out the programme.
I will get a mentor who will be able to support me for ten months after the programme finishes. The employer also helped you when you were stuck or confused on something. The employer always had positive attitudes and were supporting. There was also access to support whenever you needed it.
I got paid £5.50 an hour and you had to work from half 9 till half 4 each day. EY also paid for our trip to Canary Wharf and Baker Mckensie. I had to travel for around 45 minutes a day to get the location which was really easy to get to. EY also gave us free lunch everyday and some people even got their travel costs reimbursed.
There are many opportunities outside of work as you become EY alumni which means that you get invited to company events and company activities. EY also has many offices in different locations so you can work in any one of the locations. Also we have opportunity to go to conferences and events.
Yes
I would recommend the smart futures programme to a friend because you gain a lot of experience and can gain and develop employability skills. You also get to network and meet new people and find out their experiences and find out how they got to EY. Another reason is that you gain a qualification out of it aswell.
I would say do not panic when doing the telephone interview and just to take your time with it and don't rush it. Also don't be afraid to ask the person interviewing you to repeat the question as it gives you extra time to think of an answer. Also take every opportunity that comes up as you can gain more experience.
