I'm an intern at EY and had a variety of tasks each day, we were required to work in different teams to complete the tasks we'd been allocated. We had to communicate a variety of different people which helped improve my networking and communication skills and also had a variety of fun tasks, there were a range of exciting projects that we took part in which were fun but also educational.
We're doing the CMI qualification in team leading which will allow me to have an advantage in relation to my peers as a lot of people find it difficult to manage a team. I've learnt a variety of new skills which I wasn't confident with before joining the program such as communication, networking and time management which will help me in the future.
The Smart Futures program has been an amazing opportunity and I would recommend everyone to try it even if they aren't necessarily looking to join a career in finance - It has allowed me to learn and develop a wide range of skills and make new friends that I wouldn't have made during college. We were given many oppurtunities and were able to visit different offices which has helped broaden my knowledge.
EY values all the employees and treats everyone equally. Everyone at the company is very diverse and friendly and treats you in the same way even though we were only on work experience. During the work experience we were especially valued and were given the same tasks as the EY employees which didn't make us feel left out
Everyone attended the induction event and it was scheduled well as we finished on time. The first day was an introduction to the program and we were told what we'd be doing - during the first week we did many team tasks which helped us get to know one another - we also had scheduled breaks and everyone leading us always finished on time.
Our training providers are very approachable and allow us to ask as many questions as we like. They give us all the information we require and if we have any further questions they are always open to re-explaining and answering any questions to elaborate on our understanding and making us feel comfortable with what we are doing.
Our employer is very helpful as they provided us with a mentor that we'd be working with for 10 months and have given us all the resources we need to complete our day to day tasks. We have been allocated mentors that are very friendly - my mentor led an activity on 2 of the days which helped our communication and allowed me to feel comfortable when asking any questions
We were on a 3 week work experience and are receiving a good salary considering what we are doing - EY also covers travel costs and we are allowed one paid holiday. The salary that we receive will help me save up for certain things and gives an insight into what we could receive if we decided to join with EY. They have also provided us with lunch each day which was already paid for.
The smart futures program will help me a lot outside of work as we first have visited different firms such as Baker Mckenzie which is a law firm and did certain tasks which helped give an insight into law. Including the smart futures program in my CV will possibly give me an advantage to other students as we gained a variety of skills.
Yes
There are many different oppurtunities that we wouldn't necessarily know about without the smart futures program and it has allowed me to communicate with many different people and make friends with a diverse range of people. The skills you acquire from the program are very useful not only in day to day life but also in our future careers.
The application process isn't as bad as it seems but include as much information as you can as it'll help during your interview - be yourself as much as possible as EY is based on its people. Prepare and revise for assessment days because there are many bright people - try to improve your presenting skills as you present on many of the days which I wasn't prepared for as much but I still think it was a good opportunity as it's really helped me boost my confidence.
