  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job title was store assistant. My role as store assistant includes various tasks such as communicating with customers, re-stocking shelves , stock counting and assisting other staff members. My task varied during the day depending on what needed completing first. I would come in and discuss what was expected of me for the day and what tasks I was assigned.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt new skills such as how to communicate with customers and the importance of customer service. I improved skills such as time management and working under pressure to meet customers demands. The job taught the value of hard work. I also took initiative and developed new processes to compete tasks more effectively. My maths skills also improved.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The experience overall was pretty enjoyable. I liked working in a fast paced environment where every second counts. I felt like I contributed to the success of the smooth running of the store. I enjoyed working alongside other staff members as it very much of a team effort. I learnt new skills which is always a positive.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Boots?
  • I felt valued by the store as my role contributed to the overall success of the store. I felt every member of staff had a part to play in the success of the store. It was very much of a team effort. I felt valued by the managers as they'd congratulate staff members during staff meetings.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the programme I felt was somewhat well structured. This is because although I was given a list of the tasks, I was required to do beforehand, It changed from day to day. This meant I was a little unprepared but I did enjoy the challenge and it meant the job was fresh and exciting.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I received a huge amount support from the training provider before the experience began. They gave me all the information I required. This included the start date, the job description , and contact numbers. I felt I was prepared and was given the correct information. The providers were also able to answer any queries about the job I had.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer provided me with support throughout the whole experience. The arrangement of the experience meant I was able to ask for help whenever. I felt relaxed knowing I was able to ask for help If I required it. I was given good training for all the tasks I was required to do.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I was given finanacial support from my family members. This meant I had the funds to pay for transport and food for the whole experience. I live at home so did not need to pay for any additional accomadation costs. I was able to purchase discounted food and drinks from the store. I purchased a weekly bus ticket to save on travel costs.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • The city is full of opportunities for people of all ages. This includes young kids and the elderly. The city has many restaurants, clubs and bars. We also have cinemas, libraries, gyms and leisure centres. I like to enjoy some of these during my free time and during holidays. I would like to do more in the future.

  • Yes

  • Yes, I would recommend Boots to a friend. This is because Boots offers a great workplace for its staff. They offer an excellent opportunity to develope various skills in a comfortable, safe environment. The manager are understanding and prepared to help whenever help is required. I very much enjoyed working there and one of the main reasons for this was the positive atmosphere.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Boots?
  • I would advice to build a good working relationship with the managers and staff members from day one. This I believe will impact greatly on how much you will enjoy the experience. Other advice I would give is to to request all the information you require from the training provider bedforehand for a smooth, stress free experience.
