Shadowing trainee solicitors in various departments and practice groups, and working through tasks typically given to trainee solicitors. Also involved in some group challenges like a business challenge and mock employment tribunal, and listened to talks about topics ranging from commercial litigation to entry to law.
I have learnt to use existing softwares and websites used by solicitors, and also basic legal principles. Various exercises developed my written and verbal communication skills, when presenting findings to the group, and drafting emails and summarising large bodies of text.
I enjoyed it immensely- we weren't treated like children, we were treated as adults and given responsibility to go out and get lunch, but more importantly, do other people's tasks that needed doing, eg research.
Very valued. I was given lots of positive feedback and in the farewell email, encouraged to consider the vacation scheme when at University, which really boosted my confidence.
Very well organised/structured. The group was together for talks and exercises in the morning and then we split off into our departments for the afternoon. The structure enabled us to experience more than one department, and also have enough time to complete a multitude of stimulating tasks to the best of our ability.
A lot of support- we are made to fell confident to ask questions if we don't understand something, and also given 1-1 feedback.

The experience itself is just invaluable.
This has provided an opportunity for us to embellish our CVs or personal statement, which puts us in good stead for applying to university and also vacation schemes/jobs further down the line.
Yes
The whole experience is just amazing. You are given so much help and support in terms of career paths, personal experiences, etc, and really get a taste of what its like to work in a large city law firm.
Put a lot of effort into your application to make sure you get a place, because its invaluable experience. Once you're here, don't be shy- ask questions if you don't understand, and really make the most of the fact that you are supervised by trainee solicitors because they are all very happy to help with CV reviews and talking about their experiences, and how they secured a training contract etc.
