when I started I became a checker, this is where you check over all the picked goods to look for mistakes like extra cases or not enough cases. I then moved to the cleaning aspect of Aldi and began cleaning the warehouse in all areas. I've also done specials, nights, goods in and now I'm picking. on a day to day basis I will begin by coming to work for 20 past 5 and I will instantly get all the things I need for the job role which are, a knife a marker pen and my headset, I will proceed to get a truck and go to the picking area after doing truck checks. I will pick up a pod which is a link to an online server and plug in my headset the headset will give me instructions and I will pick stock from the isles slot by slot listening to what the headset says I will do this till the pick has finished attempting to hit my pick rate. I have a lot of responsibilities no matter what department I am on as I am learning and doing the job at the same time, I will always have to put away all used items for example stickers or wrap. I need to ensure I wear PPE as well on a daily basis
I have learnt how to drive several different types of trucks and how to use them for different things like picking up pallets to driving bulk pallets around. I have learnt how to come across to people in a better manor and interact with people I don't know in the job role so my skills in team work have increased a lot.
I enjoy the programme in places but also not in some places. for example I enjoyed working on goods in as I got along with everyone and the job role was good as I liked driving the bulk trucks. I also enjoyed working on nights as it was a very different but friendly environment. I also enjoy meetings with the apprentices where we get to voice our opinions. sometimes I don't enjoy the job role for example I di not enjoy working as a cleaner as I was not interested in what I was doing therefore I did not enjoy the job. I also didn't feel as though the workers or the deputies paid much attention to me. overall I do enjoy the job, it wasn't what I expected it to be but in a good way as I still enjoy the job a lot.
I feel as though I am a part of the team now and that I make a difference to the business. however as an apprentice I am supposed to be used as a helping hand and sometimes I feel as though I am relied upon a lot more than I need to be for example I haven't been allowed days off as I have been needed for the shift when I'm not really supposed to be relied upon as a shift worker I'm supposed to be a helping hand.
the programme is structured well as I have a plan that shows what department I will be on next and for the future which was made by [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] who is in charge of apprentices. however the training provider the apprentices were with went bust so we have had no connect for 6 months until recently however the new company we have is a little unorganised and don't have much of our information.
at the moment not very much as the new company have just came in and they have not done anything but go though our past work with the old training provider. hopefully when they are organised and have all of us ready we will receive some support.
I have a lot of support from [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] who is in charge of apprentices as he gives us 1 to 1 meetings and group meetings to ensure we are all getting along fine and address's any issues we have. he helped me get time off work that I was entitled to after I was declined the section leaders also deal with any issues I have in work
now that I am in my second year my pay has gone up so it is a little better I am able to run a car and still have a social life although when you tie in something like a repair bill or a holiday cost it can get tricky
I don't know if there are any company activities that happen out of work I think that many people play football outside of work. when I'm not working I do things that I enjoy, as I'm still young I don't have many bills to pay and I don't have any kids or anyone to look after therefore I can still have a social life, before I was working I was in sixth form so I have always been busy doing some form of qualification or work
Yes
I believe they are a good employee as they give you good qualifications the hours are good the work itself is good and it is a very stable job tat wont be going anywhere as its a very successful business.
I would tell people to ensure that they are confident through there meetings and if they get the job as they will have a higher chance to get a promotion in the workplace.
