At Aldi my job role would be a warehouse apprentice. As an apprentice in the warehouse I move around the different departments. This means that my job will vary depending on the department I am on, this is the same for my daily tasks. Each day I will report to a deputy manager or a section leader and depending on the department I will deal with wagon drivers mainly as an external customer. As an apprentice who is training to become one of the warehouse deputy managers I sometimes have a lot of responsibilities and duties that change is seriousness depending what my job role would be for that particular day.
So far I have gained my level 2 in warehouse and storage. Under this qualification I have been trained on diferent rucks in the warehouse, such as a forklift and reach truck. I have no as yet gained any external qualiications however, because at aldi most courses are internally taken. Personally I feel like I have developed a higher confidence level in terms of talking to people and large groups and also in myself and how I take on tasks that are given o me. I have learnt many different job roles, which I have been able to do by working on each department and learning both the selector and manager roles for that area in the warehouse.
Depending on what department I am on and what my job role is, will depend on how much I am enjoying my apprentice on a whole. Overall I enjoy my apprenticeship, especially now that I have moved onto the management stage of the course. I have found at no matter where I am in the warehouse I have a tendency to get along with all my team members both personally and professionally, which has made moving around more enjoyable for me. that being said. I have found that on some departments I feel as though I have been used more as a full time staff member and nor an apprentice who should be learning. This would be the areas in my apprentice I feel most stressing and disheartening.
depending ion the department, will depend on how valued I feel. Some departments I have felt as though I am being used to fulfil menial jobs or that i'm not trusted enough dong specific jobs which would have some level or importance, whether it be major or minor. At the end of my term on each department I under go a performance review with a section leader. This has made me feel more appreciated. I am considered as a valued member of the department instead of feeling like a visitor or an extra pair of hands. Most departments in the warehouse do make you feel like a valued member of staff and will trust you with bigger responsibilities and tasks.
When I first started at Aldi, I felt like the internal structure to the apprenticeship wasn't good. As I have progressed in my time here, I have found that the apprentice programme has been given more time and is looked upon more. As of now I feel internally the apprentice programme is very well structured and looked upon.
I don't feel like I have much support from training provider. When I first came to Aldi, my training was done by a company called First4skills. However, my mentor only came in once a month, and although on his visits he provided a good amount of support and education, I felt that we needed more contact time with him. Due to a bad Ofsted report, the company had disbanded from Aldi. After months of not having a training provider and getting behind o my course, we finally (recently) gained a new provider called Mantra. So far we have received one visit from Mantra. We were given a portal in which we can track our progress and see what units we have to cover and complete for the remainder of the course. however we still will only receive one visit a month which o me isn't enough support or contact time. On the portal I am able to complete the units myself at home however personally I don't like as I will have to take time out of my personal lie to do this work, which I don't find fair as I believe I should be able to do it in my place of work. To me I think I need more contact time with my assessor.
MY employer gives me a great deal of support. As my time ere at Aldi has gone by the apprentice team have been looked upon more highly and given more time. Aldi have been good in keeping me informed with my course and anything else i need to know about my course and have supported me with anything have needed.
As I am only a young age I don't have much outgoing costs. Comparing my salary to other apprentice programmes it is very high. My place of work is a short drive away so I don't spend much money at all getting here. I do a good amount of hours which usually gives me a good wage so I am able to save a reasonable of money for future plans and enjoy a social life in which I can afford luxuries.
No. There isn't much out of work regarding Aldi such as company events or anything which involves the local community. We do have a benefits programme in which we can get a bike to work scheme an cheaper gym memberships etc. Aside from this their isn't much to do outside of work.
Yes
I think Aldi is a good company to work for. The have a good salary which is met by a early finishing time. There is a lot of promotions available as well.
would ay expect work under pressure as aldi have a lot of targets which are consider difficult to meet such as a pickrate. I would erge them not to be late at all and o work when sick if they are able to as it will benefit them in the long un when i comes to applying for manager roles and other jobs in the warehouse.
