My job title was Smart Futures Student and my role consisted of researching for case studies, presenting back to the whole group of students about what we found which boosted our confidence. Also, we had meetings with professionals and got to network with different individuals that made for making great new contacts.
I have developed my skill of presenting so now I am more comfortable to speak in front of a big crowd and also my teamwork skills as we had to work in a new group every day. Working in a new group everyday allowed me to learn about my strengths and weaknesses and where I could improve and apply my strengths to the group.
I thoroughly enjoyed my programme as I met new people that I normally would not who have become really good friends for life. Being able to do new challenges everyday such as case studies and Dragon’s Den was also really enjoyable as we had to really sell our products and our services to the judges.
I feel very valued by EY as they have made a big investment in me and the 17 other students that are on the Birmingham programme. Professionals have been very helpful and open to any questions I have had so as to give me a full understanding and by also giving me a mentor for the next 10 months, they are not just deserting me.
My programme is structured very well as there is always something new every day to do, most sessions run smoothly and the volunteers are extremely nice and helpful whenever we need them. For business experience week, they programme was also ran very smoothly in partnership with BLF as we had a great host.
The amount of support we receive is tremendous as they are always there to help us whenever needed and they can correct us when we are not doing something in the correct way. They will then tell, show and demonstrate what we need to do correctly in an encouraging manner.
Amount of support we receive is very good as they are understanding when issues arise and allow us to take a day off to deal with the situation. They also understand if we are late and it is an exceptional circumstance and they are also easy going and easy to approach.
My salary meets my living costs as I live fairly close so I only have to get one bus to and from work. Although when it was business experience week I had to get four buses a day so the pay package compensated for the money I spent on travel. Also it was very fair as I got to use my salary on driving lessons.
Yes, we had opportunities to visit various clients of EY and see the kind of work they do and also the kind of work EY does for them. Alongside that we also got training opportunities to enhance our skills which would allow us to stand out from others when put on our CV.
Yes
I would recommend EY to a friend as they would gain invaluable work experience that no other Big 4 company and they would develop many skills on the way which would enhance them as a person and also allow them to stand out on their personal statement when applying to university in Year 13.
I would tell them to be honest in their application and that they should try show themselves in the best light possible as hundreds of other people are applying too. I would also tell them to be prepared for their telephone interview and they should make sure to do their research and they should practice.
