During my week at PwC, I was in the assurance department where I shadowed a different member of the assurance team each day that I was in the office. I performed a range of tasks from researching potential customers, editing the errors on audits and presenting my findings on new technology being used in businesses to maximise profits made. I also took part in a sustainability project where I researched the responsibility held by large businesses to set an example, which I presented to the student recruitment team at the end of the week.
I have learnt technical terms and words used in the professional services industry that I did not previously know. Being in the office I was able to quickly pick up new ideas and ways to approach tasks. My presenting skills improved after various talks and the chance to produce our own presentation at the end of the week. I also developed my skills on how to work best in a team as I had the opportunity to meet a large variety of new people.
I really loved spending time with the other people who had started the programme at the same time as I did, we got on well and I enjoyed working with them on tasks throughout the week. It was particularly interesting to meet different members of the assurance team and learn what their individual tasks were. I enjoyed the variety of the work that I was set and being immersed into the company right from the start of the programme.
I was involved well in projects set for me during the week and I felt that the tasks I was completing were of use to my team in the office. However, I would have appreciated some more feedback on how my office team thought I did over the course of the week.
The support that I received was wonderful, there was always somebody I could chat to or email if I needed advice or help with anything regarding my week at PwC. However, I feel that I was confused before I started my week as to who I was meant to be meeting and where as I was getting conflicting emails from different members of the student recruitment team and members of my office.
Support was easily acccessible at any time, I never felt like I didn't have anyone to direct my questions towards. Whenever I had an issue or a simple question, I was always able to get it answered very quickly which eased any worry or confusion that I may have felt otherwise.
We had a partners and directors Q and A session which was really helpful in helping us to get to know the directors and managers more than we previously did.
Our travel costs for the week were covered by PwC which was very helpful as some of us had to travel quite a long distance for several days of the programme.
We were invited to a rounders tournament during our time at PwC and felt included into the company and the social aspect to it. We also had a chance to play table tennis in a central area of the office each day which was a great chance to bond with the new people that we had met and really helped us to settle into PwC.
Yes
PwC has many different roles and areas that will suit different kinds of people, there is something for everyone. I learnt many new skills and really enjoyed meeting new people. Everybody I met at PwC during the week was friendly and interesting.
My advice would be to make sure that you reply to all the relevant emails within the relevant deadlines, as there are a lot of emails both before and during your time at PwC!
