To start with, we had to complete learning logs in order to obtain our CMI Qualifications. We were taught what to write ie presentation skills and we had to type up what we learnt. After, we created presentations regarding futuristic phones and we had to deliver these to advanced level people in order to recreate the show 'Dragon's Den'. This had clearly developed my confidence and in the 3rd week we had to go to different places for real life work experience of which I worked in International Tax which was very interesting for me!
I had definitely developed my confidence through interactions and delivering presentations, which was very effective as confidence was something I struggled with a lot before. I also developed my presentational skills as I learnt a lot through this even body language for example a straight posture and wide stance. Another skill I developed was time management as we had specific times to complete tasks in and this improved my time management.
The program was very beneficial so I enjoyed it very much and I met some amazing people on this work experience. I also learnt a lot and received extremely important advice and feedback from mentors and volunteers to help us along the way. At the start it was a bit difficult getting up in the morning during the summer holidays however I started getting used to this and was enjoying the experience much more.
As a student, I share the values and ethics of EY, such as being respectful and friendly to everyone. I found extremely valued by EY especially from their staff who were extremely friendly and welcoming, also helping us every step of the way. This made me feel honored to be part of EY even if it was just for 3 weeks. Also, my colleagues who were doing what I was felt this way passionately.
It was very well organized as we had a plan on what to do day to day even before the program. We had specific times for lunch and break which didn't fluxuate and this structure stood throughout the whole program so it was very consistent. Therefore, I would say it was very well structured and organized.
I received a lot of support from my training providers as they were with me every step of the way and helped me along this journey aswell. They were not with us during the last week for our work experience, however this was to allow us to demonstrate some of our independence nevertheless, they were always an email away in case we had any concerns or queries.
I received a little less support as they had to go to another city to help with their smart futures program, however when she was here, she also helped us every step of the way with every task we had to complete however she didn't spoon feed us which was good as it gave us independence.
It was very good for people our age who (most) are unemployed, so it was very good, along with learning on the way so it was a win win situation. I very much appreciate the money as it was a lot (especially for 3 weeks) and it has allowed me to pay for my driving lessons!
Yeah, we were able to network with different people and build relationships, which would be connected even after the smart futures program. Also, we were given a mentor who can advise for a year after this work experience which we meet with every month and they advise us on what to do such as the best routes to follow.
Yes
Because the smart futures program was very beneficial and allows students to develop their skills by a mile. It improves confidence and can give you the confidence to talk to anyone you want. Also, it looks very impressive on your CV and creates a more likely chance for employers to hire you.
I would advise them to not be shy as you want to build your confidence. Don't be intimidated as everyone is in the same ship as you. Take every chance you get to answer questions and impress the EY foundation. Enjoy every moment of it and make sure to listen and learn as what you learn will go with you for the rest of your life.
