I worked in conjunction with ITV, BBC, Cadbury and more in a work placement with their partner, CRAFT. We worked on producing some advertisements for their channel, in which it was a very educational placement. I shadowed the Director and what his role was leading up to and during the shoot, which helped me out as that is the role I aspire to take up.
I learnt a lot about how to work as a team and what roles are responsible for making sure shooting goes as efficiently as possible. Though some more detail would have been appreciated, I went away happy, and eager for more.
I enjoyed the programme very much and was able to leave with more knowledge about the industry and how it functions.
Though I was applied to a small role, I felt welcomed and was assisted whenever I needed help. I felt valued to the extent of my role, which was more than enough for me to feel satisfied with my placement.
As the work placement was mere days before a shoot, things were hectic, so It wasn't completely organised, but I felt like my placement was structured enough for me to get an overview on everything we'd be doing and how we'd be doing it.
Support was average, I would often go around asking if help was needed as occasionally I would be left with nothing to do. But when I would ask a query, I would receive full attention and support which was great for getting information on the role I want.
Most the support came from those on set, the employer was not my line of interest, so it was understandable that I would not be their priority.
It was an unpaid work placement in order to gain extra credit for University.
Yes, there are plenty of roles within ITV, BBC, Craft and more in which you can get a placement or internship in order to gain relevant information to the role you would wish to learn more about. I definitely benefited from the short placement and went away satisfied.
Yes
Anyone looking for insight into how a studio functions and how certain roles achieve what during the shoot, I would definitely recommend going for a placement in ITV.
Be confident and don't hold back any questions you might have for the crew. You're there to learn about the roles in the studio, don't hold back your interest.
