I am an agile developer in Derivatives Core Processing. I write automated integration tests for software releases awaiting to go into production for the operations department. I also specialise in analysing user acceptance criteria and business requirements by breaking them down and put into technical terms for the developers to write the code. My responsibility is in the Document Services component, which covers Trade Confirmations. On a daily basis I work in a team of 10 with daily 'stand up' sessions expressing our goals for the day, achievements from yesterday and any blockers for progress. I also, train 5 hours a week on specialised technical skills in SQL Developer, Java and derivative product knowledge. Along side this I help out in career events, internal open door days, work experience student shadowing etc. as my role as an Apprentice.
I am currently studying for my L3 Apprenticeship - Investment Operations Certificate (IOC). I have done a one week intense Java training course. Every day I pick up skills: communications, presentation, technical, ability to work in a team, ability to work under pressure etc.
My expectations of the programme have been exceeded. Not only do I gain valuavle experience in working in a leading financial service company, the scheme sets up activities for us: Round the Island Boat Race, fund raising days, day trips to London etc.
I feel very valued by all managers including senior managers.
It is a well structured scheme. Our provider BPP are outstanding. With learning plans organised to the end of the scheme.
Lots. - We have onsite visits close to our exams - A tutor we can talk to whenever we have an issue - Access to online lessons and study guides.
Yes. I have 1 to 1's with my manager weekly and feedback meetings with the apprenticeship managers regularly also.
fairly well. Our salary is a lot higher than the average apprentice wage but I know a lot of the apprentices that have had to re-locate do struggle with living costs.
Countless. Sports teams, volunteering events, fund raising activities, social events, day trips.
