  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently my work involves producing daily end of day reports which allows my project to monitor the progress of the test participants. This also includes showing defect count for each TP. This interlinks with other duties of my role which is to monitor a defect queue to get them moving along and ensure action is taken on them.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The role has allowed me improve my communication skills, and problem solving skills. I have had to speak to different type of people on the project to ensure that information for the reporting is accurate. I have also come across varies problem such as process enhancement and have managed to overcome the issues.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme is a very good opportunity to get a free degree and experience at the same time. As well as having a very competitive salary. The programme itself can be improved, but if you are self-determined then you can drive your career. Role Orientation is not something which is already set by HR so it is down to you to find a new role and speak to the support provided.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by CGI?
  • The team I work in is very friend and good. Everyone in my team recognises the work I do as I am the only one on the team who is able to produce the reports. I have had appraisal from our project manager appreciating the work I have done to keep us on track.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As mentioned earlier the programme can be improved, especially in terms of the university side for the technical area. The tech stream is good but it’s not very intuitive unless you already have previous knowledge so if you are thinking of becoming a programmer, and have no experience it will be useful to learn the basics in your free time, as university may not teach you everything.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • CGI offer a lot of in-house online training as well as providing out of office course which anyone and everyone is eligible for. This allows you to enhance you current skillset or even learn new skills for a new role or a current role. All training is free as there is a set budget for it and speaking to your line manager or people manager who are able to approve it for it.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • You get a lot of support within the company to help you progress which is very useful. There are different people to help you with university side of things as well as work that you are able to talk to. Even the people on your team are able to help whether that is to guide you on your career path or to help you with university work with the experience they have.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is very competitive when compared to other similar programmes, as well as getting a pay rise every year. Along with this you also get other benefits such as discounts from various different retailers and services and having the option of getting private healthcare or participate in the share plan.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Outside of work there are a fair bit of opportunity such as SSC, which you can pay into and get to do various activities for free or a discounted price with other CGI members. Each location has different activities planned such as football every week or going out for a meal and even Christmas dinner.

  • 9. Would you recommend CGI to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The sponsored degree programme is a very good opportunity to get a degree and not having to pay 9k, as well as getting experience at the same time. You also get paid for it which is a bonus. This not only allows you to think ahead of people at university but allows you to see if the IT industry is really for you or where you might want your career to go to.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to CGI?
  • When you apply, I would advise to do your research on the company and know what they do as it may not be for you. This also useful in the interview as you may get asked about this. Have some small stories of times where you have accomplished something good or overcome a problem, something which shows your skillset.
