On a day to day basis I am normally working on preparing accounts for a client, these could be for a medical partnership, a small sole trader or a limited company. I also spend time preparing tax returns for these clients.
I had had only done a few weeks of work experience before I started here but now I am able to prepare accounts for sole traders, medical partnerships and limited companies. As well as this I am also about to prepare tax returns for both individuals and companies
I enjoy my programme as I like the variety present, I am unlikely to be doing the same thing every day and each client is different. I am also gaining exposure to new things and am able to apply the theory which I have learnt at college to some jobs.
I feel valued by BDO my counselling manager is supportive and is willing to help if there are any problems. BDO is also keen to encourage training if you do not understand something in order t develop your understanding further.
The programme is very well structured I have a college timetable so I know all of the dates when I am attending college and when each exam is booked.
We have an AAT Reviewer at college who is in touch regularly to ensure that we are finding everything ok. Additionally all of the college tutors are contactable via email if we are struggling with anything. We can also stay behind after college if we wanted to sit and go through things with them.
We have a counselling manager assigned to us when we first start and they are there to help with any problems that you would want to discuss with them. As well as this we have an open plan office so you can go to anyone's desk and ask them to go through something with you if you are unsure.
My salary meets my costs well, and I feel that I am very well paid.
There are often social events organised which are always fun to go along to. There is also the opportunity for 10 paid days of volunteering to be used in the year if you wanted to.
Yes
There is a large variety of work which you can do here, so every day is varied and different and brings it's own challenges. The people here are friendly and will try to help you be the best that you can be at your job. They will help you with college and sit and go through things with you if you are unsure.
In terms of the online tests at the beginning of the application process make sure that you do as much practice as possible of similar questions in order to help you gain the best score that you can. Don't lie in the application process and do not try to 'wing it' make sure that you have done your research and have good true examples that show your qualities in order to impress the interviewer.
