  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My job title is Master Data Administrator. In this role I ensure products that are purchased and sold are set up and processed on our systems. At the same time, these products are monitored and regularly updated. All data is analysed on a daily basis to prevent any business failures. I extract and run reports from our systems to format on Excel spreadsheets, this is then distributed to the required individuals in the business. As a team we liaise with Denmark on a regular basis to discuss projects which are currently in process. These projects involve developing and implementing new systems to achieve easier and thorough working processes.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Internal training and 4 years working in Master Data has abled me to learn and discover new skills. SAP is most definitely one of the main key achievements for me. This is a system that holds all of our data and I am now able to investigate and operate around the system in a lot more detail. During my time with Tulip I have gained a lot of confidence. I have had the opportunity to produce and deliver presentations to groups of people and also provide training at other sites.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme itself has been enjoyable. At the same time, it has been challenging and exciting. New projects and tasks lead to more improvement and development. Most importantly, my skills and knowledge have widened with the amount of experience I have had in Master Data. Also, the programme with the college is very helpful. The scheme is very structured. I was happy with the regular meetings with my tutor which allowed me to stay updated and on course with my coursework and assignments. The company I work for, Tulip, also provided me with guidance and support throughout my Apprenticeship.

  • The programme is very organised and structured. As a Tulip employee I was happy with the scheme. Reviews were very regular, every three months. This allowed me to share and discuss any thoughts I had on my apprenticeship, and also receive feedback from others. My tutor is always contactable by phone and email which made it easy to communicate when help was required.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My tutor was very supportive. He offered a lot of help and guidance. He also made it very clear how the Apprenticeship scheme works, which made me understand clearly what I needed to carry out. My tutor gave me regular opportunities to visit the Walsall college where I could have a whole day to complete coursework. This was very beneficial as I was able to have one to one help and also make use of materials such as computers and books in the library.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I had a considerate amount of support from my employer. The HR department along with my team leader and line manager have been very co-operative. At times when I needed guidance, their feedback was always helpful and constructive. They also made sure I had sufficient amount of time to complete my college work without feeling pressured.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary has increased during my time at Tulip due to the positive reviews and experience achieved in Master Data. I currently don't have bills to pay as I still live at home with parents, however the cost for my travel (car and fuel) is fairly high. My salary now does meet my costs for living, but I would still like to develop in this area in the future.

I visited an abattoir when I first started working for Tulip and it was a massive insight to the business.
