As an apprentice I spend my day shadowing an engineer and attending any breakdowns he's called too. Inbetween breakdown jobs each engineer has a set list of planned maintenance tasks to complete.
Having only been on site working for two weeks I'm still learning the site and how each area of the factory runs. So far I've started to gain a base knowledge of how the different machines work and the common problems.
So far I've completed the first six week block away in Birmingham and that has gave me a very good insight into engineering and how different techniques can be used to solve different problems. I really enjoyed this six week block and learnt a lot from this.
As an apprentice I feel the right care has been shown to make sure everything is in place for me to achieve as highly as possible.
So far from the little time I have been apart of the apprenticeship scheme everything has been well organized and set out clearly what is required from me. I've been given a mentor at work who is there to help keep on track.
When I spent the six weeks away at Birmingham there was a good structure to all learning. Tulip also have an apprenticeship coordinator who is there if any problems arise and can be a link between Tulip and the training centre.
At work there has been the support available to me from the start, mainly through assigning me with a mentor. But also other than that ach shift has a team leader who can also help and advise with any issues.
The money is good and I don't have any problems with living costs or anything like that.
Yes
For anyone looking to get into an engineering apprenticeship, I would defiantly recommend Tulip based on my experiences so far. Everything is put in place for an apprentice to achieve and become a good engineer.
Advice I would give to others when applying for an apprenticeship would be to show your eagerness for the job. At interview stage I would also recommend asking questions about the apprenticeship ands what it entails.
