I am currently training as a mechanical design engineer where i use CAD (computer aided design) almost on a daily basis. The tasks that i complete on a daily basis vary a lot which keeps my job from becoming repetitive. This could be from analysing drawings to re-designing parts.
Yes i have. . I have learnt to be a lot more confident in myself. This was through starting this apprenticeship and socialising and working with new people. . I have learnt a lot about the business and what it takes to be successful in a competitive market. . I have learnt about the different types of engineering which has opened my eyes to how vast it actually is. . I have learnt/still learning how to use our CAD system.
I enjoy my programme because of how friendly everyone around me is and they've helped me settle in very well to the company. I feel very involved already which is good as i'm doing tasks that actually affect things around the company. I also enjoy the fact that there's a lot of engineers around me who i can learn from and go to help. The way that college is implemented is great as well as it varies the week going there every Monday. Overall i am enjoying my apprenticeship.
I feel very valued by Stannah. I have recently been on a group induction day where a group of us had lunch with Alan Stannah (a chairman of Stannah) and he was extremely enlightened to find out that i was an apprentice. He said that apprentices are the future of his company which made me feel valued to the company.
My apprenticeship scheme is well structured as i am being reviewed often by my college and also my employer. I and the university students have regular review meetings to see how our work is getting on and i also have meeting with someone from my college to review what's going on also.
I do receive support from my training provider with meetings as regularly as possible. If i do need any more support with anything he will always help and i can contact him easily through text, call or email. He is very enthusiastic in helping me complete my tasks which is good.
I do receive support whenever i need it as there are many people i can go to for help. I also (as i said in question 5) have review meetings with the other uni students and i have monthly work review meetings with my manager to see how work is getting on and what i am doing etc. Overall, i am well supported by my employer.
My salary meets my costs brilliantly and also gives me enough money for extra things that i would want (clothes, social expenses etc.). It also allows me to put some money away into a savings account to help with things like learning to drive and car expenses when it comes to it.
I haven't attended many myself but i know there are events that some of the employees put together and i know that Stannah is a very charitable company, hosting many fundraisers over the years.
Yes
Because its a good and well respected company to work for. there are many perks with the company and they also look after their employees.
. In the interview, just give your energy. Something as simple as just talking a lot and coming across as a respectable person goes a long way. . Try and remember names of people who are introduced to you as its not the nicest position to be in when your asking for names weeks into your apprenticeship.
