  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am currently enrolled onto the Overhead lines training apprenticeship with the aim of qualifying as a craftsperson. As such, from day to day life whilst training, we undertake a multitude of training courses to suit and match each aspect of the job so that we understand what is expected of us

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Within the training development I have picked up several new skills such how to tie the different knots used in the full role of the job for lifting heavy equipment. I have gained more experience and skill in climbing balance and co-ordination as a result of the tasks at hand too

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am currently very pleased and proud to tell people where I am working and training and as I am developing new skills its made me eager to show them off to anyone that is interested and i have also recommended this programme to several of my friends and family. Personally its the best job or career move I've made in my life and i love it

  • 4. How valued do you feel by National Grid?
  • I feel that even though its such a large company, unlike other giant corporations I have worked for, I don't feel lost or forgotten at all. The structure I very inclusive and makes you feel like you actually mean something to the company

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As the whole years pan is produced in advance and there have been no planning issues so far I would have to say that I think the programme is fantastically managed considering just how many apprentices and ETP candidates there are currently enrolled

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I have struggled with a couple of aspects of the training as this is all new to me but I did receive some great support and help and have since improved in every weak area that was pointed out and as such am a lot happier

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As mentioned above I feel the support from the whole company is exceptional and I have received support on several fronts so I am overall very happy in my position at the minute

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Considering I live alone and am able to fully afford my house, including the bills and mortgage and my car and all relevant costs associated with hat I am very pleased with the salary I receive. I could very easily say id be happy with more but then I could always say that

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There have been several invites to allsorts of events and meetings outside of work, although they are predominantly based in Warwick at the head office but this doesn't bother me too much as I lead a busy life outside of work anyway and don't usually get chance o go anyway but the fact they are on offer in a nice touch

  • 9. Would you recommend National Grid to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • With the satisfaction and job satisfaction i feel from working here I would recommend it to anyone and in fact I actually have recommended it to a few of my friends already who were eager at the chance of being successful


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to National Grid?
  • I would say to make sure you are relaxed and to just be yourself if you ever have an interview or meeting. Id also say to find something that sounds interesting to you personally as there are so many different roles that can be followed so make sure you find something you would enjoy because enjoying going to work is rare in my experience nut is very easily achieved here
