I work at the Facilities' Service Desk at KPMG. Along with my colleagues who work with me at the Service Desk, my daily tasks include logging jobs on behalf of employees for engineers or cleaners to ensure that the maintenance of all UK KPMG buildings are suitable. I also find and book the appropriate meeting rooms for KPMG staff for any of the UK offices. KPMG staff can either contact the Service Desk through phone or e-mail. Most of my daily interactions internally are with the members of my team as we often work together to meet the employees requests. My responsibility is to ensure that I can assist KPMG employees in any needs they have regarding any facilities they require. Everyday, I answer the Service Desk e-mails and am due to start answering the phone to log jobs employees have.
Since starting this job my communication skills within a professional environment have definitely improved. I now understand how to appropriately compose e-mails for employees. Also, my organisational skills have improved as I have learnt more about using my Outlook calendar to demonstrate my yearly schedule and any upcoming events I need to be aware of. I am also in the process of getting my Level 3 Business Administration Qualification. KPMG provides me with 7hours a week to study for this in the office, which allows me to expand my knowledge on the operational side of businesses. Also, KPMG has provided me with training courses regarding accessing research tools, using Outlook and effective writing skills.
I am really enjoying being on this programme. I have had a very good experience with KPMG employees and my team in particular are very helpful. It has definitely met my expectations and the company provide apprentices with a wide range of opportunities to network which can prove highly beneficial.
I have one to one sessions with my line manager every other week to measure my progress and also to be informed on what the plans for myself are in the next upcoming weeks. I do feel appreciated by team members and my line manager.
The programme is very organised and well structured. The induction involved a 3 day residential place where all appretices from the 2017 intake from across the UK were able to learn more about KPMG together. It was also a great opportunity to meet new people who have similar aspirations to yourself. The training was well organised with small classroom sessions with experienced KPMG employees explaining to us about our roles. Also, the support offered for my studies is very good. KPMG provides me with 7 hours a week to study and also provides me with time to go take my exams in the city of London.
Once I had started working at KPMG I was contacted by my assessor who I can e-mail any time if there are nay concerns I wish to share. My assessor also organises catch up calls on Skype that I answer with my project manager. During these calls my assessor examines my progress and gives me time to feedback and reveal any worries I have about upcoming exams or assignments.
I receive plenty of support from my trainer provider. KPMG provides me with time to join any webinars that are being held for the qualification. If there are any issues with deadlines or exams employees are on hand to have a one to one discussion regarding your concerns.
I was pleasantly surprised by my salary, which allows me to pay for more transport and cover my living costs whilst also having extra for my savings. I live in London so the cost of living is generally more expensive than other parts of the UK but I believe KPMG takes this into consideration so that you can easily cover living costs.
KPMG offers six days for employees to volunteer to charities they feel passionate about which is great. There are also benefits packages available for holidays and gym memberships.
Yes
I would recommend KPMG to a friend because it is great way to kick-start your career. Working within such huge cooperation that competes on a global scale provides plenty of opportunities to network with employees. Also, ever since joining KPMG I feel valued as an apprentice and am treated the same as any other employees regardless of their job title.
I would advice others applying to KPMG to take time to answer the questions on the application form. Arrive on time for assessment days and be prepared to talk about your skills set.
