In my second year as an apprentice electrician I carry out many tasks. During my onsite experience I will work on wiring, fitting out and testing an inspection work. I could be working anywhere from Glasgow to Durham where I was recently working for a week doing testing and inspection in a quarry
Since my start date in August 2016 I have learnt many new skills. I have learnt a lot of knowledge about my trade. In my main focus of learning was to build up my hand skills and basic knowledge of the hands on work of my trade. Now in my second year we are now looking into the theory part of the trade and learning all about how and why everything works. This part involves more thought and less time spent at college.
I find my apprenticeship program enjoyable more onsite than I do in college. I prefer working on site and getting the hands on experience as I feel that it is more valuable to me as i will be working on this more once qualified
Since starting work with SSE I have continually felt more valued as an employee as my time has went on. I now feel that I am part of the team and can be trusted to carry out the tasks that are asked of me
I feel that my programme is well organised and the apprentices are provided with support from college, managers and our apprentice coordinator who is always carrying out reviews and ensuring I always understand what is happening on site
I feel that we receive alot of support from my training provider as we always have time to complete our work. All our queries and questions are always answered on time to have our work finished on time
Apprentices from Sse have mentors and an apprentice coordinator who is always on hand to answer the phone and we have reviews constantly and any issues are always solved quickly.
I feel that an apprentice salary is generally fair and our wages go up yearly as we gain more experience on site.

I thin SSE are a good employer who ensure that we work safe and always feel looked after.
Understand that safety is the most important rule at our work
