Rotate around Business Units (Such as Finance, Accounting & Controlling, Risk and Internal Control) every 6 months for the first 2 years and then complete 1 full year placement. Some placements can have high levels of responsibility and some can just include day-to-day admin tasks. This gives a wide variety of experience over the 3 years.
I have had the opportunity to attend training courses in Excel Skills and basic accounting. The Siemens Academy has greatly improved my confidence in talking to customers and I have learned about appropriate business conduct.
The work is varied and interesting, I have met lots of different people and been able to form a great friendship group with the other students and with my colleagues. Siemens has a good set of company ethics and I feel that they always strive to hire interesting and charismatic people.
I feel very valued as a student. The business managers see us as full employees and we are given roles and responsibilities within our teams. Academy students are encouraged to get involved and join in with company activities to get themselves recognised throughout the business.
There is lots of support available for students and a great database of online training that you can use to assist you in your placement. Siemens grants us days off work to study for CIMA (the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Siemens pay for you to study this qualification). There is structure to the programme but it still allows freedom of choice and we can choose what placements we go into.
BPP are the company that provide CIMA and the Level 4 Diploma (we study these 2 qualifications alongside one another). The BPP tutors are very knowledgeable and supportive, they are available to call or email every day if advice is needed.
Siemens are very supportive and there are lots of resources on our Intranet, through HR or through placement managers to seek guidance or advice on any aspect of our Job/Programme.
This can vary greatly as the Academy is available in Manchester/Newcastle/Lincoln/Poole/Frimley and living costs vary. But the starting salary is £16,000 and this is sufficient to live off if you are wise with your money.
Siemens are very involved with various charities and the local community. There are regular events and gatherings to attend. Through our internal 'Siemens Social Network' you can find lots of groups to join and find out what external events Siemens are organising.
