My first rotation in the apprenticeship is in Indirect tax, I have been give a wide variety of tasks so far such as drafting engagement letters to completing VAT helplines out at client offices. I also help with generic VAT questions from clients and help set up a lot of client engagements.
So far I have passed two of my AAT level exams (Bookkeeping and final accounts prep). I haven't however been put through any specific VAT training which has made my placement harder than it could have been. I have however learnt a lot of skills on the job, such as hard work and team work.
The days where I'm allocated VAT related work I enjoy but that at the moment is quite rare and I'm completing more generic research tasks
I feel quite valued and my team are extremely nice and welcoming. However, the work I'm completing doesn't make me feel valued
The induction at wyboston was very well organised, all the training also was well organised alongside the studying and support.
Tutor at collage the support was very minimal, for example some of us were told to 'shhhh' when asking questions even after being told 'no question is a bad question' many times. Collage overall was not enjoyable and the large proportion of my learning was done at home on my own.
The support from my employer is a lot better, any email question is answered very quickly. Also, all the people in my team are more than happy to answer any question I have.
Not very well but that is because I'm having to pay rent at home and I live quite far away meaning train costs are very expensive. However, it still leaves me with enough money to spend socially.
This is an area I thought there would be more of an opportunity, I find there is little out of work opportunities offered such as clubs. But, there are plenty of opportunities for volunteering.
Yes
I am more in the middle with this answer as some parts of the role I enjoy such as the specific VAT work I do. However, there are plenty of negatives for it as well such as not offering me training before starting my rotation.
Make sure you share all the experiences you have had that may show different varieties even if it isn't business related because they're interested in what you're like as a person just as much what you know
