I work in a team within Goldman's technology division. My role as a software developer means I spend most of time interacting with code whether that's programming, altering existing code or testing.
I have learnt so much in the time I have spent at Goldman Sachs. Although I've learnt a lot of valuable technical skills such as programming and operating new systems, my learning extends much further. I've learnt and acquired valuable soft skills as well as professional knowledge and experience.
At first it was a lot to take in but as I've progressed and gained confidence I've come to really enjoy it, I really feel as though I am reaching my full potential here.
I feel valued in my role, my work has importance and is recognised accordingly. My manager and team are very supportive and they appreciate my contributions, they've made me feel welcome from day 1.
There is little that could be done to better organise this programme. The team in charge of organising the programme and organising our integration into the firm is top notch.
Evidently the work environment is different to the school environment in that it requires more use of initiative. This is hard to adjust to at first but is a great skill to develop in the long run. Support is always available and easily accessible if you have any problems.
This firm is dedicated to its employees and they do everything possible to ensure you are receiving all the help you require. I've sought out support and guidance before and found that the firm was keen to provide everything I was looking for and more.
The salary is competitive.
There are plenty of opportunities outside of work ranging from clubs and societies to events of all sorts. I have attended a few events and talks myself and can say that they were all great experiences.
Yes
My experience at GS has been so positive and valuable so far and I believe it is helping me reach my full potential both professionally and personally. Having a company like GS on your CV is priceless and the experience you will gain during your time here is invaluable.
Be prepared to work hard as you will have to balance university with your job at GS.
