I started of as an L&D apprentice working in multiple areas of the business. My primary tasks involved supporting the Apprenticeship team with admin, supporting our Academy team with training and organising large events. I was also involved a lot with managing the budgets within the team. I was based in our HO in Camberley.
Yes, i gained a Btec Level 3 qualification in Business Administration. The apprenticeship had a wide range of different topics and units i could study, and i sat with my apprenticeship adviser and line manager to discuss what units would best suit me, and the team. I have also had the opportunity to go on other external training courses.
I really enjoy working at BAM Nuttall, the companies culture makes you feel like your part of one big family, all working towards the same goal. My team has been really supportive and fantastic over the last two years, with them giving me opportunities to grow as an individual, and to shop me how valuable i am to the team.
I have always been valued at BAM Nuttall, whether that has come directly from my line manager at my reviews, or just a team member giving more responsibility within tasks. I was invited to attend the National Apprenticeship award in which i attend with our Apprenticeship Manager. It was really nice recognition for my hard work.
I received a team induction on my first day, followed by a company induction around a month later. I was giving a mentor who i still see after two years, and apprentice adviser that new the programme inside out and who could give me and advice i needed, and a line manager who took care of my day to day work.
Hawk Training were excellent, my tutor was very good and always checked on my welfare. They had plenty of materials i could use to support my apprenticeship, and a really good online tracking system for me to see how far i had progressed through the apprenticeship, as well as good examples i could use.
I was giving a mentor who i still see after two years, and apprentice adviser that new the programme inside out and who could give me and advice i needed, and a line manager who took care of my day to day work. my team were fantastic with me and always ensured that every piece of work that i carried out was benefiting my apprenticeship.
My salary was a good competitive amount, and i had all my travel expenses paid for so i was in the perfect situation. I was weekly paid as an apprentice which i loved, it meant i always had money in my pocket. Whenever i was required to work away from home i was alwasy put into a hotel and had all meals covered.
We have plenty of social clubs and other opportunities to do outside of work. We have 'BAM Benefits' which is a website that gives us loads of discounts for days out and events for us to attend. We also run free clubs like running clubs to support people as they want to gain some fitness.
Yes
Like i said earlier, the culture at BAM is amazing, i have never felt more part of a team and valued. You are fully supported and seen as an extra team member that is given plenty of tasks to do, and given plenty of opportunities to develop yourself as a person.
My biggest piece of advice would be to be yourself. From application to interview you will be fully supported by an apprenticeship adviser, and given every opportunity to ask any questions you may have. You dont really need any previous experience, i joined after finishing college. Just enjoy the process.
