Accounts Assistant. Day to day, I am involved with the preparation of statutory financial statements, VAT returns and bookkeeping for a range of different types of clients. I interact mainly with others in my team, and less often, with personal tax. I interact with the clients I am working on, externally. I am responsible for the completion of the jobs that I am allocated to. I am also responsible for administration jobs such as dead filing and also completing my timesheet.
Definitely, I am on my way to completing my AAT level 4, and will then endeavour to complete my ACCA. We have various training on accounting software's, and new accounting information. I have learnt to apply a lot of the things that I learn in college, especially the financial statements module.
I enjoy the programme as it is really motivational. I especially enjoyed the initial programme all new started went on, as a chance to get to know Mazars and some of my new colleagues. I made many friends on that 4 day training event, whom I still speak to now. It is reassuring to feel as though there is support from every aspect. My team are very welcoming and overall, great people to work with. The company culture is great, the focus on diversity is outstanding, and I definitely feel that I can be myself at work.
I haven't had too many experiences with recognition to date. I am always happy to receive feedback from managers and colleagues.
There is a good structure to the programme, the initial 4-day training courses are wonderful with helping to settle in well and get to know Mazars and the culture better. I have a mentor at work, who is also a good friend and I feel as though I am supported in this aspect, as she is always on hand if I have questions.
The tutors are really helpful at BPP. I have had a few problems, and don't always feel as though the materials are accurate however. I enjoy days at college as they give variety to my week.
My manager is approachable and friendly, and I have been able to speak with her regarding any issues I am facing. As mentioned, my mentor is also a good friend and she is supportive when I need her.
I consider my salary to be too little in relation to my costs. I spend over £130 on train travel a month to get to work, having attempted to move closer to work, I was unable to maintain basic living costs, and ended up moving back with my parents. The location of the office means that I have no choice but to commute via train, as there is extremely limited parking by the office, and parking is in excess of £6/day. By living with my parents, I am able to afford a social life, however I live 30 miles away from the office, and this can mean that I miss out on work events, etc. I would like to be able to afford my living costs, in a closer proximity to work.
I don't often get to consider outside of work events due to the distance at which I live away from the office. However I do know that there are many social opportunities, and I would love to be able to participate in them. Many of the leisure and sports clubs are with the guys in the office, and I would like to see more lesuire activities for the girls organised!
Yes
It is a very diverse place to work, with a lot of room for progression. The culture of the company is like that of none other, it is a flexible place to work, and they take consideration of their people.
The application process can be quite thorough, and so can the interview process. Use the resources provided on the careers website as they can give you a big confidence and motivational boost, and give you some inside tips! Definitely reach out to people who might already work at the firm, to ask them about their experience.
