I am an external audit assistant. I am involved with the auditing of financial statements for various firms that are RSM's clients. I do a wide array of tests on every part of the financial statements and also on the actual procedure of the business. I interact with people from a huge range of other firms on a daily basis that share their knowledge and experience with me,
I have learnt a huge array of skills since I started here from analysing financial statements to being able to understand the different processes businesses have in place in order to increase efficiency and to reduce risk. There is a huge array of internal train courses as well as a lot of extra courses which are optional if you want to broaden your horizons.
Every day is different as you face different challanges with different clients in different places. The culture within RSM is one of responsibility, it is not too overbearing that you feel pressured all of the time. As long as you can get the work finished for the deadline and you are putting in the effort in then it is a very freindly relaxed firm.
Although I have only been here for a few months I am beginning to see my work type change into more advanced tasks. Ones taht uphold more resonsibility and require more knowledge to complete them. I feel that people are always willing to let you try harder work and are always on hand to help if you struggle.
At first the actual structure of your programme is not immidately clear. A lot of training occurs within the first few weekes but once everything settles then you will start to see a structure as you will be assigned an exam manager that deals with all of your queries and exam dates. You also have a line manager taht will always be on hand to answer any general queries you may have.
The actual external training is good but at times can be poorly organised from the providers end, with things like reciving logins late for revision material and delays in course bookings at the training center. Although once you attend the mentors are very good and knowledgable. After course support from the actual pmentors is minimal mainly due to the sheer size of the training center and the volume of pupils there studying so many different courses but the online materials are very good and thorough.
Due to the freindly nature of the firm you soon become comfotable with asking most people any questions or quries you have but aswell as this there is a prominent HR department that is very proactive in making sure any problems or quries are sorted and resolved.
I feel the pay package is adequate for the living costs and is higher than usual especially for a school leaver. The location of my office in crawley os well connected and is easily accessible by train or car.
There are many social events arranged people in the offices aswell within their departments and sometimes between departments. There are not as many by RSM as a firm itself but due to the size of the office this would not be the easiest thing but there is a good range of events over the year arranged by the firm
Yes
A good culture within a firm that is not too big you become just a numbe rbut is also big enough that you gte a wide array of work from within the proffesional service sector. The support within the firm is great and you always feel comfortable asking for help and seekin guidance.
When applying make sure that you do your homework and research the sector and firm and make sure you have a general udnerstanding of how business works. Be honest within your application and interview as people can tell if you are twisting the truth ,and this comes across worse than just being honest.
