Account preparation for small-sized entities, completing iXBRL (online tagging) of accounts, preparing quarterly VAT returns, and attending college in order to pass AAT exams.
I am working towards by AAT Level 4 qualifaction and am therefore learning the foundations of bookeeping.
I enjoy being challenged and learning new skills to allow me to gain further qualifications which will help me to develop my career. I enjoy working in a team and learning from others with greater experience than myself.
I have regular review meetings to which my progress is monitored and goals are set. I feel like I can ask questions to those around me who have completed the same exams and have taken the route I am now in.
College dates are set in advance so I know when I am expected to attend college, and when I will be in the office. I attend BPP college which has been great, I enjoy being back in a school environment and learning with others who are of the same level as myself.
My training provider (BPP) have been really good with communicating with me and answer any queries I have very quickly.
My employer allows some time for revision/ college study during quiet times in the office. However, when I am in the office I am expected to work on Client accounts and therefore there is little support. Yet, if I needed help I know I could ask any of those in my department and they would be happy to help.
Salary is good for a school leaver. Luckily I do not need to commute and therefore have little outgoings in comparison to some.
My employer does host social events outside of working hours, as well as annual sports day which is a good opportunity to talk to peoplpe you wouldn't necessarily work with in the office.
Yes
Good opportunity to work in a global firm where there are various departments in which you deal with and can gain an insight into not only your line of work. Alongside that, you can gain professional qualifications which will be valuable to you in the world of work.
Focus on why you want to work in this chosen field - why accounting? Make sure you have an enthusiastic approach to learning and make the interviewer confident that you will be able to succeed academically as you need to pass exams to develop your career with RSM.
