As an apprentice you are involved with assisting engineers, in particular using Microstation a form of Computer-Aided-Design to create drawings. Using specialist software to create alignments for new railways and modifications to existing railways.
Courses have been conducted to improve competence in certain software packages. Other external courses have also been offered to assist with gaining a greater appreciation for railway (permanent way) engineering.
In the varied roles it assumes the work was stimulating and the company culture was one of learning through experience and particularly from more experienced engineers.
Employees are recognised internally by management for their efforts, he company treats it's employees fairly and responsibly.
It was well structured, and support was offered from the company to assist with an studying, mentors were assigned to guide us through the induction into the company and for general assistance thereafter.
There was generally good support from the training provider, such as from the various tutors. It depended on the individual; if they sought help and showed willingness then the tutors were more than willing to assist.
Support is offered at all levels from Management through to HR.

There are opportunities, such as social gatherings, sports and leisure activities after work, etc.
