  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role as a Continuity Analyst involves ensuring teams across my organisation have robust and effective Business Continuity plans. Working with colleagues across the organisation providing them with subject matter expertise, guidance and assuring their plans to ensure they meet my expectations. Also I manage and maintain their Business Continuity exercising cycle ensuring they are aware of when testing dates are due and supporting them as required.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have recently been put through the Business Continuity Institute examination which is a world-wide recognised professional qualification which increased my knowledge of my role and allowed me to apply some of this knowledge to my day-day role. Also I have vastly developed soft skills such as relationship management throughout my time at the bank.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme has been very enjoyable for me as I joined into a very supportive team who welcomed me instantly and also supported me which helped build my confidence in my role and allowed me to perform it to my best ability. I did not expect to enjoy working at the organisation as much as I do, all of my expectations for working here have been exceeded.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by NatWest?
  • RBS value their staff as I have been given many opportunities to develop myself and my skillset in unique projects which involves many people across the bank. Also my team and line manager always provide recognition for any good work I have done and sharing this as wide as possible.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • RBS gave me ample time to conduct my studies and also supported me if I need extra time if my apprenticeship tasks were heavy in a particular month. Also I received a lot of support from my team and manager with tasks making sure I had the right capacity to juggle my day job and also doing my apprenticeship coursework at the same time.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My training provider provided me with the right amount of support throughout my programme ensuring I was able to complete the tasks within the deadlines and I was always clear on the tasks and what I had to deliver. The review meetings were also helpful as I could discuss future tasks and effectively manage my capacity to suit the task.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager always put my programme as my top priority and ensured I completed it with the right support and within the timelines required. Whenever I was unsure of tasks or projects I always used the support of my team to gain their opinion and feedback if required which gave me confidence as I had support when required.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary provided was very good compared to my expectations. I had enough each month to cover all costs with some to spare. The package also included 25% benefits which I could use for healthcare, pension and other benefits which is also very good.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are always events at RBS which you can get involved in dependant on your interests, from Conferences which you can develop your own skillset to social events which you can catch up with colleagues or others from the organisation. There are also countless communities which you can get involved in, like Health & Wellbeing ones for example or you can even join a Bee Keepers group.

  • Yes

  • RBS can provide you with excellent opportunities and will support you with whatever your ambitions are, and if you do not know your ambitions, we have many people and methods to help you understand them. It is also a great place to work as from my experience everyone is helpful and wants the best for the organisation.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • Make sure you are confident the area you have applied for is the one that best suits you and you like the sound of the most. In the interviews make sure you are well prepared and confident in yourself as the interviewers want you to succeed! If you are accepted make the most of all the opportunities you can get involved in even ones outside your team.
