Job Title: Mainframe Support analyst. What the Job involves: The job itself is primarily on the mainframe which is a very old system still used by some places. It involves supporting a particular part of the company to make sure that the company operates and customers are not affected. We also make changes to try and prevent issues before they happen. The use of SQL, cobol and databases is vital to the role to be able to understand what you are looking at on the mainframe. We use systems to raise changes, pick up incidents and work requests so use of other systems are involved to. The need for good problem solving is required to be able to resolve issues that occur and also SQL, Cobol programing language can be tricky so a keen eye for mistakes is good to have also.
I am currently in the first year of the apprenticeship so I have not gained any qualifications as such. However I have learned a lot of new skills considering I had never used SQL, Cobol programing before and before I started if I looked at it, I would not have had a clue what it was. I have to date went on courses for Security, databases and web design which have been interesting.
Really enjoy the role I am in. Feel the assessors do make like difficult at times but I can look pasted this based on the fact I am employed by the company and the assessors are really only here for 2 years.
I feel very valued in my role and by my line manager and team. They have all been very helpful and welcoming.
This is where I feel it could be a lot better. The company that runs the program at the moment are all that good. There is always paperwork issues and its very hard to get a lot of your assessor if you do require any help.
I have not really had to get any support so I cant really say. based on the courses I have been on the support has been great in the courses.
My employer has been great throughout and again my line manager if very supportive of the program.
I feel the salary for the apprenticeship program is outstanding.
I have been in the program for 7 months and I have been on about 6 different events outside work and have turned down the opportunity to do more. I think this shows how many opportunities there is outside of work
Yes
I would recommend RBS apprenticeship program for many reasons. Good pay, good benefits, good working environment plus many more.
Always base you interview on STAR format, if you are unsure what this is, look it up and make sure all your answers follow this structure.
