I work in the Applied Security team at RBS. My role involves a wide variety of tasks which and project work. One main aspect of our team is security (cyber and physical) education and awareness. I have helped out with fraud education and awareness events for staff and customers. I have also worked on counter-terrorist exercises with my line manager. On a daily basis I help my senior team members out by working on administrative and statistical tasks alongside my apprenticeship work.
I have developed my existing administration skills working in the office, particularly using Microsoft Excel. I have also developed my people skills as I deal with a wide variety of colleagues on a daily basis.
I really enjoy my role at RBS as I am in a good team which allows me to get involved with a variety of activities. I also enjoy working in the bank in general as there are a lot of opportunities and activities to get involved in.
I feel valued by RBS as my line manager always makes time for me and my other team members always get me involved in pieces of work etc. RBS makes efforts to promote and include apprentices in bank-wide initiatives.
The structure of my team is well organised and I receive appropriate training and support from my colleagues. I find the organisation of BPP modules to be a little confusing at times as instructions are not always very clear and I have been passed between several different assessors over the past 6 months. This makes it difficult to get a feel for what is expected in the coursework. I also feel that some of the modules are too general and don't really apply to my individual role. However I think the apprenticeship is a great opportunity to gain a new qualification and learn new business admin skills.
I receive adequate support from BPP as questions are usually met with a quick response and there are fairly regular telephone reviews etc. However, as mentioned above, the structure could be improved a little in terms of assigned assessors etc.
I receive all the support I need from my line manager and other colleagues. Everyone is approachable and happy to provide help and guidance if needed.
My salary package meets my basic costs.
There are lots of opportunities to get involved in. For example, there are many employee-led networks you can join as well as volunteering and sporting opportunities.
Yes
I would recommend RBS to a friend because it is a good company to work for with lots of opportunities (in terms of both work and social).
I would tell them to research RBS before their interview and to be confident during assessment days etc. I would also encourage them to take all opportunities offered to build their experience and network. I like to have been told more about the structure of the bank before I joined (what department I am going into does, what my specific team does, and so on).
