I carry out setting out duties on a residential tower in canary wharf. Look after the core structure with the site engineer. I am also responsible for the hole protection on the building.
I have gained a variety of news skills since starting doing different on site training for different site equipment. I have also developed my skills in the construction field through different aspects of engineering. I have extended my knowledge in setting out using different types of equipment and using drawings.
I really enjoy the programme I am apart of as there is so much possibility for progression and a career. I am given responsibilities and different tasks everyday.
I feel like an important part of the team at Laing O'Rourke and feel very appreciated by all the team.
My programme is very well organized. We was told in great advance when we got the job and when will be needing to start. The induction was very well prepared and lasted three day explaining everything we need to know and our role and the company. We do modules where we all meet up for progress and team building during the year and is very well organized.
I receive on site training from the site engineer as he teaches me everything he does on a daily basis and explains what he is doing. I also receive help from him for my university studies as he is currently doing a degree also.
My management team and always speaking to me about my progress and how I am doing to ensure I am happy and getting on alright. we have a formal review every three months as apart of the programme to give feedback and support.
I am a school leaver so am living at home so living costs are not high. Plus my full travel is paid for so my salary is sufficient for me.
We are always asked to attend different types of functions outside of work as Laing O'Rourke do a lot of community work in schools promoting their work and programmes. We also attend a lot of careers fairs.

It is a great place and environment to work. Get the opportunity to work on some of the biggest projects and get the opportunity to gain personal skills as well as a great degree that will set you up with a career with Laing O'Rourke for life.
Research the company thoroughly before applying as the interview process is difficult. Plus be prepared to work long hours and balance university work at the same time.
