I am a trainee construction manager. I have various responsibilities including managing works on site, updating project information, checking site progress against the project programme. I also carry out roles such as being a first aider, fire marshal and member of the crane rescue team.
I have been on two projects with Mace. Both projects have developed my communication skills as well as developing my technical and practical construction knowledge. I have undertaken several training courses and completed my HNC in construction. I am currently working towards my level 6 NVQ in construction.
I have enjoyed both projects I have been on as well as the trainee scheme. The trainee scheme has exceeded my expectations. The company culture is supportive and welcoming.
I regularly receive feedback from my line manager and directors involved in the trainee scheme. The feedback is constructive and positive when you have done well.
The programme is very well structured with training plans issued to keep you informed of training sessions. We fill in a portfolio of competencies which help guide learning on site. We get lots of support from emerging talent and I have received lots of support from my line manager and project team.
I get sufficient support from my NVQ provider and they regularly email me and arrange visits to check on my progress.
Emerging talent, my line manager and my project team have both been very supportive with plenty of opportunity to address any concerns.
My salary meets my costs and as a mobile member of staff my travel expenses are refunded to me.
There are lots of external opportunities outside of work and we are actively encouraged to volunteer on a yearly basis.
Yes
Mace has been extremely accepting and supportive. I cannot fault the structure of the scheme and the skills and knowledge I have gained.
Be prepared before your interview and do plenty of research before applying/being interviewed.
