I was an assistant at the Apple tech department in London as I was assisting engineers oj the designing of products to check to see if the products were working properly. I interacted with customers and I was responsible in testing the devices before they were put in stock. it was a very rewarding experience as I was able to see how final touches were made in the products as well.
I have learned how to develop my communication skills especially when speaking to the public and hearing hat they think of the apple products was very constructive in allowing for improvement in meeting customer needs. I had external training courses which was orchestrated by Apple on how to check hardware of goods and my engineering experience in software was incredibly helpful for this.
I enjoyed my programme as I was able to work alongside like minded people and the company has good values of improving their phones and meeting customer needs. I also enjoyed seeing how Apple constructs its phones and the viewing the reasons behind their design choices and apps setup allowing for ease by the user.
I felt very valued as I was highly praised by my manager for the 6 months i worked at Apple. I was extremely hands on in the group tasks at Apple from helping designing the new batches of iPhones alongside checking to see if they were fit for a sale as well.
Very structured and organised as we were given timetables and if changes were made we were notified in advance of this. Great for teamwork in software development, as the induction day was especially useful in get used to the environment and learning about the software of Apple in depth. Through studying the phones and hardware allowed me to expand my engineering knowledge in finding out appropriate materials and our manager was very helpful in assisting us on any problems we faced. The teams were sometimes a bit skewed due to the other interns being much older than me but this was good as I was able to gain more knowledge from them and Apple about software and the practicalities of the phone
In general I received a lot of support as each intern was assisted a mentor and we could go them for any queries. Also our line manager was helpful in forwarding queries to the right people and they were always accessible and it didnt feel like a hassle in contacting them for extra help.
A lot especially from our Mentor and manager at the company. They were very approachable in guiding us with any problems that we may of had such as figuring out how to use particular software to formulating algorithms on apps as it was confusing at times due to the different equations that were used to operate them. but overall the people were very helpful and friendly to talk to as well
Apple were generous with their pay as our travel costs were accommodated for. However we had to find our own accommodation near the office and living costs were a tad expensive in the surrounding areas. Despite this, the location was fantastic as it was very accessible and in a place that has loads of shops and bars/ restaurants so it is easy to socialise with colleagues after work
Not much in terms of voluntary activities but Apple held charity events every two months. In addition there were loads of leisure activities available such as free gym membership and swimming pools which were very incentivising. In addition, the location allowed for loads of socialising as we often went for after work drinks and cinemas so itv was a very relaxing environment.
Yes
Very structured and organized schedules and your able to also have timetables that suit your needs as well. The pay is good and you get work alongside people who are also interested in the field of software engineering. Great for teamwork in software development. Very high standards.
Know your stuff for the interview and be yourself as they want to know what your about in terms of how you will fit in the organisation but also dont forget your knowledge as they quiz you on that. They do accomodate for disabled people through special provisions at the assessment stages as well.
