My job title is business admin apprentice, in my day to day role i do routine admin tasks such as filling in forms and documents or booking travel and accommodation. I often do my college work too, and build certain tasks and shadowing colleagues into this- so i can achieve my units.
I've developed a lot of new skills, such as basic engine knowledge, excel and other Microsoft programmes knowledge; how to structure meetings and events and also skills such as confidence to interact over the phone or email or with other colleagues. I have continued improving my skills that i learn here everyday.
I would say some days i do enjoy the work, when i do different tasks or learn new things in internal or external development programmes. However i find quite often i have little balance between work load, so either lots to do or nothing for a whole week. This is where it has let me down in my expectations of the apprenticeship, there is no consistency.
I do feel like i am valued to some extent, if i need help i can always receive it and i am often credited for my work.
I would say as an over all my college part to the programme is organised, and any training related which is organised through the apprentice manager. However some parts of my actual role here are unorganised as in no clear structure to my job role- i struggle to see how i can develop within this role.
I don't often ask for the support however i know if i needed it, she is there to help. I feel if i needed help with something i could speak to her, and she would ring or email me to help.
I would say some people support me more than others, but there is a lot of people in place to help me if i ask for it. Or even just thinking constantly about how i can develop my position here more.
Very well, i don't have much for living costs or travel. So really majority of my wage is social, and is definitely enough.
I would say within my role there is a lot of opportunities to travel to different locations, and shadow those in different roles. Also we are encouraged to participate in EEEC which is volunteering, so again a good opportunity there. Training is also encouraged, whether it's internal or external.
Yes
There is lots of opportunities here to get involved in beneficial training and activities- but also the opportunity to get into your desired role or try it out. Especially if you are interested in engineering, as there is a wide range of engineering apprenticeships here.
I would say make sure your application was received by Cummins, in order for it to be processed. Other than that try and push yourself into as many opportunities as possible, and stand out from others.
