I work in securities lending as a billing administrator. My role is mainly involves billing external banks (counterparties) on stocks we have out on loan with them. I am in constant conversation with these banks and also our trading team as there may be a confusion between the banks and myself with regards to amounts due each month. I also interact with people internally, whether it be PPM Asia (Our office in Asia) or other areas such as collateral.
My excel skills have improved in a very short space of time. I am also taking the CISI IOC qualification which is helping me understand my job much better and how M&G fits in the financial services industry. The nature of my job also requires me to be good at time management and very meticulous and so I have built upon these skills.
My team are great, I felt very comfortable from the start. The environment is not stressful and so you can produce you best work. This apprenticeship definitely went beyond my expectations.
I feel very valued, I am not seen as just an apprenticeship but the same as everyone else.
the training part of the apprenticeship did not start until a month in, which actually helped with familiarising myself with the role firstly. I have frequent meetings with HR to discuss how everything is going. Studying is something you will have to maybe sit down with your manager and discuss as if you are in a busy role, the workload may take over your revision and it shouldn't. There are also opportunities to have a mentor from a different area in the company.
The support from my training provider is very good. We have meetings often and they are very good at making the studying part of the apprenticeship much easier. I don't feel unnecessary pressure from them.
The support is good, however my role in particular is more individual so if I have problems I know I can ask for help. My manager however does help me with the daily tasks and make sure I understand what I am doing. There is also a hotline you could call if you needed someone to talk to. However, HR are very welcoming.
I live in London so I don't have to worry about rent etc... The salary is good, It covers all my costs and I still manage to save quite a bit.
there are a lot of events that go on that you can take part in. Also around Christmas time, there are plenty parties and drinks out. the apprentices also plan lunches from time to time.
Yes
M&G is filled with great people and the atmosphere is very relaxed. there is a good work/life balance too.
Be yourself from the start, the application process is comprehensive so be your best at each stage. Make sure you prepare properly before each stage especially the face to face interviews by researching M&G and your potential role.
