Working within IT Operations meant using systems that require different technical languages ranging from Java, Python, Unix/Linux to SQL etc that needs to be learnt. Along with developing interpersonal skills to allow me to problem solve effectively.
I have been lucky enough to be a part of a great team that makes me feel comfortable when asking for help and know my colleagues are always happy to provide support or answer questions.
From the start of my programme I have been part of the team and was asked to be involved in various tasks to increase my knowledge and invited to meetings to get a greater understanding on my role. I also had constant catch-ups with my manager regarding my role consisting of things that went well and how I could excel in the future. Allowing me to always present by best self.
The programme has a great structure. I had a couple of months before I started by training to have a learn on the job experience as it allowed me to learn all my daily tasks routine, before I had to start my training this really helped me get the hang of things and they made sure it wasn't too overwhelming. The HR team can set you up with a mentor that are expert in the field to give you a greater understanding on how the business works.
I have received a lot of support from my training provider and they are always willing to help and provide me with any resources and extra help I require.
My manager and HR has been extremely supportive of me, knowing I am a school leaver they ensured to provide us apprentices with the level of support we required and gave us time to initially get the hang of things. Also, my team and manager have been extremely helpful by working around my busy apprentice schedules.
