I am a Trainee Quantity Surveyor. My day to day roles include looking after subcontractor orders and making sure all accounts are kept up to date. And Keeping quotes and payments up to date. I also go on site and make sure that relevant progress is being made, and all things quoted for have actually been completed.
I have learned my way around specific software that the company uses to log orders and raise quotations. I've also learned some basic construction fundamentals to help with creating new Bills for when we start more projects.
I really enjoy my new job, just having the ability to be in different locations is wonderful, i never did like sitting in an office block all day. Its also good to be learning new things daily.
I currently cant form an opinion on this, as we have only just come out of the 6 month grace period so have not, first hand, felt any effect from them. However i am impressed with how fast the new branded cloths have arrived.
Very well organized and structured, everything is pre-planned by a couple of months and i always know where i am and what I'm doing each day.
I received as much as i need based on the task individually.
full support whenever it is needed, whether its help with mileage as i travel a lot, or allowance for college days. And I'm always able to ask for extra help with anything i need, from stationary to a couple hours at the end of the day to finish some college work.
I understand that I'm an apprentice and we generally are not paid well, it was the same in my last position. With my current wage I'm able to save 100£ at the end of each month so although its tight there is still a little wiggle room and i never have to skip dinner. But who wouldn't say yes to more money.
I have not been exposed to any extra curricular activities, though i have seen results of previous activities and fundraisers.
Yes
This is by far the best apprenticeship i have been on, after completing my last apprenticeship i can safely say this is ahead by a country mile, so well organized.
Get to know what kind of work you want to do, i highly recommend trying work experience first to get a taster for what you want to do before you jump into a contract.
