  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I currently work as an Employee Relations Specialist within our employee service centre. I support and coach line managers across the organisation with employee relations issues such as absence management, performance management, conduct and employee complaints. My customer base is mainly UK however we support some European customers and have daily interactions with internal employees. I also have interactions with our legal partners and other third party providers when required. In addition to case management in the above areas, I work on a number of projects across the organisation around the people agenda which provides me with a breadth of experience and keeps my role very varied. I thoroughly enjoy my role and find it hugely rewarding.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I completed my school leaver scheme in December 2017 so I am now qualified in Business Management BSc which I completed for 3 years whilst on the scheme and completed cross functional placements on the scheme. I have completed a range of internal training courses such as skill based learning e.g. excel proficiency as well as softer skills such as giving and receiving feedback. By completing my degree and working I have been able to apply my theoretical knowledge to the jobs I have completed and I have learned a lot more about how theories work practically within an organisation.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The school leaver programme has been the best decision I made. The company is fantastic to work for, people really are at the heart of the organisation and you get to work with really exciting brands. We have a really fun culture and are offered many opportunities to develop and succeed in our careers. I would recommend a school leaver programme at Mondelez to anyone who asked me as it has given me the foundations and skills to pursue a lifelong career in HR now.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Mondelez?
  • Very valued by the organisation and my manager. The company has a great recognition scheme and in particular on the school leaver scheme we were recognised for our results and dedication to the qualification and company.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well organised offering a formal induction with a number of support networks including a manager, mentor, buddy and functional sponsor. Rotations are organised by the functional sponsor with guidance from the line manager and the individual so you get an input on where you would like to go. The training offered from the university is fantastic and well designed with the early careers manager at Mondelez which ties in with our study agreement.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Support from the training provided was good, we had a programme sponsor who worked fantastically as she was our main contact point as we progressed through the degree and had different tutors. She solved any problems we had as well as keeping governance on our qualification. The tutor support from the individual modules was also very effective and they were available very flexibly to accommodate our working hours.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The employer is equally very supportive and offered us dedicated study leave to complete our qualification as well as dedicated days to do on campus learning and self study meaning we had a balance of distance learning and face to face learning. Mondelez were very supportive in advising and supporting with assignments in particular when work related to help us identify appropriate topics.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary offered on the school leaver scheme is very generous if living at home with parents/guardians and is very comfortable to cover living, travel and additional costs. With regards apprentice salaries it is very competitive and offers you a great starting point for entering the world's largest snacking organisation.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Mondelez has a great community agenda with many volunteering and fundraising opportunities to get involved in or support. They also have a great well-being agenda offering fitness facilities which again is a great benefit. Social activities are also organised and the organisation celebrates success a lot through these things. Also whilst on the scheme, we arranged social outings after work, during university times so that we could socialise outside of work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mondelez?
  • Prepare for your interview with competency examples and experiences you have had be it in life or during education. On the assessment day, be yourself and enjoy it. I got so much out of the day and the assessors only want you to be your best. Ask lots of questions to find out more about the organisation and be inquisitive. Prepare research on the company so that you know about the company principles and values.
